Instructions

Round Patches

  • Step 1:
Ringworm fungi leave round, hairless patches, usually with some crusting in the center and a red tint at the edges. "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" notes that they appear most often on the legs and face.

Not Too Itchy

  • Step 1:
At first, these hairless patches will not seem to bother the dog. The "Veterinarian's Guide to Your Dog's Symptoms" notes that they will not become itchy until they get a secondary infection.

Nail Problems

  • Step 1:
Through regular self-grooming, the ringworm spreads to the dog's nails, causing them to split and become brittle.

Gradually Spreading

  • Step 1:
The round hairless patches will start out small and gradually get larger, spreading out over the whole body and tail. By this time, they will get infected and become very itchy.

Warning

  • Step 1:
Ringworm is highly contagious to all mammals. You must keep the dog away from other animals and wear gloves when touching the dog.
