Instructions

Size

  • Step 1:
A "teacup" is lingo for an extra small version of a toy breed and is not a designation recognized by the American Kennel Club. A typical teacup is between 2 and 4 pounds and stands about 8 to 10 inches tall.

Types

  • Step 1:
The most popular kinds of breeds in teacup size include Yorkshire terriers (often called Yorkies), Maltese, chihuahuas, Pomeranian and poodles.

Considerations

  • Step 1:
The bones of a teacup puppy are extremely fragile. As a result, they must be watched carefully, particularly as a puppy. They cannot jump off and on the couch or have free roam of the house.

Warning

  • Step 1:
Because of their fragility and size, a teacup puppy is not the right pet for everybody. If you already have a large dog living in the house, a teacup probably would not be a good fit.

Theories/Speculation

  • Step 1:
Some animal activists say that teacup puppies are simply premature puppies and can have a host of health issues, including respiratory and digestive problems.

Cost

  • Step 1:
Teacup puppies can be quite costly, ranging anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.
