Instructions

Types

  • Step 1:
The usual treatment for acid reflux in dogs is to keep them from eating for 1 to 2 days. A non-fat diet should be given once feeding returns. If the reflux is more severe, medications may be necessary.

Function

Keeping the dog from eating will give the dog's system a chance to relax. If medication is used, it will relieve the dog's symptoms.

Causes

  • Step 1:
A high-fat diet is the main cause for acid reflux in dogs, as well as the dog not being in the right position when put under anesthesia.

Symptoms

  • Step 1:
The symptoms of acid reflux include lack of eating, weight loss and vomiting. The dog may also make unusual howling noises.

Recovery

  • Step 1:
Once the dog has recovered from the acid reflux, it should be kept on a proper diet and have follow-up appointments with the veterinarian.
