Instructions

Kaopectate

Step 1:
For both vomiting and diarrhea, you can give your dog 1 tsp. of Kaopectate for every 10 lbs. of body weight. You may repeat every 4 hours as needed.

Pepto Bismol

Step 1:
Pepto Bismol is also effective for vomiting or diarrhea. You can give your dog 1/4 tsp. for every 10 lbs. of weight and repeat every 6 to 8 hours as needed.

Antacids

Step 1:
DiGel liquid and Maalox may help relieve vomiting. Give no more than 4 tbsp. in an 8-hour period. Other antacids containing aluminum hydroxide can be given at a rate of 10 mg per pound every 6 hours.

Antibacterial Ointment

Step 1:
You can treat small abrasions and scratches by cleaning them thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide or betadine, and applying an antibacterial ointment. Depending on the location, you may want to wrap it with gauze to keep the dog from licking the ointment.

Aspirin

Step 1:
You can give aspirin to your dog for mild pain or discomfort. Dog aspirin is available in most pet supply stores. Be sure to follow the dosage instructions carefully.

Warnings

Step 1:
You should never give your dog any medication if it is vomiting blood; see your veterinarian immediately. Large cuts and puncture wounds will also need your veterinarian's attention. Never give your dog acetaminophen, as it is toxic to dogs and can cause liver damage.
