Instructions

Allergies

  • Step 1:
Many dogs are allergic to various grain products, and some have allergies to specific proteins. Consult your vet and put your dog on a limited ingredient diet (there are many available on the market) and see if that helps.

Pumpkin

  • Step 1:
Canned pumpkin can help dogs who experience loose stools. Make sure the can contains 100 percent pumpkin and that the filling does not contain any spices. Mix a tablespoon of pumpkin with your dog's food twice a day.

Reduce the Amount of Food

  • Step 1:
Some dogs may experience upset bowels due to eating too much. Try slowly reducing the amount of food you give your pet at each feeding to see if it helps. Consult your vet when doing this to make sure you do not underfeed your dog.

Pepto-Bismol

  • Step 1:
Pepto-Bismol works wonders with human upset stomachs, and it can also help soothe your dog's system. Mix a small amount in with your dog's food whenever it experiences intestinal distress. Always check with your vet before giving your dog any human medicine.

Soothing Diet

  • Step 1:
Temporarily switch them to a home-cooked diet. Give your dog 1 cup of plain boiled rice with some shredded boiled chicken or hamburger. Make sure you do not use any spices or condiments at all when preparing the food.

Serious Conditions

  • Step 1:
If your dog has a visibly bloated stomach, diarrhea or vomiting that does not subside, or blood in its vomit or stool, take your animal to the vet immediately.
