Biography: Kita is a pure bred Shiba Inu. She would play 24/7 if she could manage it. She's incredibly smart, and she pretty much thinks the world revolves around her and her alone! At times she's almost cat-like in both agility and behavior, and at other times she wants to cuddle like a puppy. If she doesn't get her way, though, oh man, look out! LOL! For her size, she plays incredibly rough. She's small, but she's fast and agile, and when she really gets going, she runs circles around our German Shepherd that's three times her size. She is disobedient to the point of amusement---Kita does what KITA wants even though she knows what I want. If I call her to come to me, for example, she just looks at me; if I'm offering to play or take her for a walk or give her a treat, then she'll think about it and maybe come if that's what she's in the mood for, but if I'm not offering something she's interested in, she'll just go back to what she was doing. And often, she will purposely misbehave just to gain attention. She loves to grab things around the house she knows she's not supposed to have---usually a tasty Lego from one of our kids' rooms---and then has a blast playing keep-away from the four humans and one other dog trying to catch her. When researching the breed a couple years ago I came across a website that described them as "fiery little furballs from hell". Dead on! :) She's as mischevious as a dog could possibly be, but she's also as loving and devoted a dog as you'll find. I love her independence; she's more like a friend than a pet and there is mutual love and respect. Not a breed for everyone though. If you think you might want a Shiba, be sure you do your research on their personality.
