Buckeye is a four year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. We got him from a breeder on February 17, 2006 and have loved him ever since. He was the last puppy at the breeder, and was already twelve weeks old. We were originally looking for a female Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, but who could resist? We named him 'Buckeye' because we are big fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Some of the people in our family are from Ohio, and we just thought Buckeye was a great name. A few weeks after bringing him home, we signed him up for puppy training class at PetSmart. Buckeye learned so many new commands and tricks. Sit, stay, down and heel were just a few. Buckeye graduated from the training class in a flash. They reccomended Intermediate class at PetSmart, but we thought Buckeye had already been well-trained during his puppy classes. We then taught him many tricks at home that he still knows well today. Spring came around, and we noticed Buckeye was becoming itchy. He was licking his paws and itching constantly. We took him to the Vet where he had to get medicine. We ended up getting him Allergy Tested a few years later. The results were shocking; Buckeye was allergic to everything! All kinds of meat, grass, dust. He had to switch foods several times before we found one that he was not allergic to. About a year later, his skin started turning black, blue and purple. It was strange. He was getting heavy and losing hair. We went back to the Vet where he was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, which means that his thyroid is under active. Today, Buckeye still has his horrid allergies and Hypothyroidism, but he is a wonderful dog who everyone loves. He is well-behaved, friendly and is just an overall great dog.
