Coober Pedy-ADOPTED!

Coober Pedy is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter. Please find contact information at the end of his story. My name Coober Pedy - Pedy for short. I'm about a foot tall and when fully fluffed, almost the same in width. But underneath all that fur, I'm in great shape. I'm around 4 years old and have a fantastic thick black coat and am in excellent health. I'm happy, proud, eager and lively -- everything you'd expect from a Pomeranian. While I can come across really intense and even obnoxious upon first encounters, I really do love humans and am very people oriented once I get to know you. I am always excited to see my foster parents and love to cuddle. I love to lean against them and have my fur scratched and will happily sit on their lap and don't mind being held either. I am also very energetic and will dance and spin circles when I get excited, which is often. I like to be brushed, love to get my belly rubbed, and do great when it's bath time. I'm also a quick learner and have completely mastered sit, "down", "shake" and am working hard on "roll over". I can "stay" too -- but not for long. I walk extremely well on a leash. I would be a great companion for someone who likes to go for long walks every day so I can get out and strut my stuff. I also love to run so living with a runner would be great. I have a lot of energy and do better when it is expended. Even though I sometimes bark when I see other dogs, I am much better when I'm outside and moving, than just standing around or hanging out. I even lived with two other female dogs and we were all fine together. I've been perfect with my house manners (no accidents). I go out and eat on a pretty set schedule, but I am ok if my schedule isn't like clockwork. I sleep in a crate every night and am pretty flexible about when I get up. Around the house I will happily sleep by your side or in a dog bed when you are working on the computer, but I like to be part of the action when you're up and about. I love to play fetch with my favorite toys for a long time. I ride great in the car too. You can see more pictures of me here! So what's not perfect about me? Well, I can be vocal - sometimes barking for attention, sometimes barking to alert you, and sometimes barking and reacting because of fear. When I am afraid, I can be VERY reactive (like when meeting someone new) and can get overly worked up. In these situations, I am quite assertive, and rather than cower and move away, I will confront the person or object that I am afraid of. This has become habit, so it will take time and training to re-learn new behaviors. In the meantime, I need to be closely managed, so that I am not put into these situations. Because I'm a ladies' man, I tend to warm up to women a lot faster, and many times you will find me in their laps within a few minutes, but with any new introductions, I'm much better if you let me get to know them first on my terms and not to force the situation. My ideal home would be where I can either be king of the house, or share it with a compatible and well adjusted dog who can deal with my sometimes Napoleon complex. I need my human peeps to have prior small dog experience and understand our needs and behaviors -- and realize that we are not just cute fluffy stuffed toys. Because I can be both assertive and reactive, I would be best in an adult only household. I'm living with a cat right now, but I do love to chase and bark at it when I see it . . .
