The story bout Duke's parents being called Sampson and Delilah gave me chills. Duke is definitely ment to be. Many happy years to him and Tyra. Both are beautiful dogs.
What a lovely story, for me it is the pure perfection of nature/the big man/Dog in the sky.....
They are adorable.
All the best for a long and happy life together xxx
We had Harley and Davidson. Both mutts, or more politically correct, mixed breeds, Harley came from the pound at about 1 ++. We never believed she was badly treated, nor neglected, but she was an escape artist and beautiful little monkey-doodles and probably got away from folks once too often. She was too beautiful of a soul to have suffered much from human hands. At about four years old, she would sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh and pouuuuuuuuuuuuut and generally give the attitude of "you guys have to go to work and leave me ALONE AGAIN"!!... and that's when we began a search for another dog. Always strays and rescues for us, I contacted a number of shelters and rescue facilities in our area (small town Ontario, Canada) to find out that they had dogs as "small as 65 lb.!" Harley was 20 lb. She was sort of a sheltie cross .... much long, blonde hair and a bark that would shatter glass, so we just guessed. Within weeks of the beginning of our search I discovered "Mr. Davidson" as a particularly sad, sick, abandoned stray on a back country road while taking a snowy-day short-cut to the main highway to get to work. How I coaxed him into my vehicle over the next week is another story I won't bore you with, however, Miss Harley and Mr. Davidson became, almost immediately, inseparable. Harley, at age 14, passed away in June '07. My husband and I knocked ourselves out to keep Mr. D. entertained, loved, distracted and interested. You know, nothing much worked for very long. In November '07, he just said "Nope. Not without Harley." We sobbed like babies. He was 15.
All that pathetic story was meant to do was empathize with your loss of both Samson and Delilah. Man, it's tough, eh?
Ten months ago, we adopted a little black spaniel/poodle-ish mix (aka "mutt") from our local shelter and she's far too spoiled for an "abandoned with no i.d." stray. Just check out the toys, kit and pillows. Sheesh!! When the three of us snuggle in our beddies, or snuggle in our little camping trailer at bedtime and all cuddle and speak nicely to each other we simply cannot imagine how a human being could allow that little black dog to become "abandoned; no i.d.". Five minute cuddle and she moves to the foot of the bed or the floor without command and doesn't disturb 'til we awake in the a.m. Not sure I'll ever get humans. Most sincere congratulations on your beautiful little boy, Duke. The thing with dogs is that they ALWAYS get better with age!! Just like a good wine, eh?? Love your doggies.
Most sincerely,
Lorna Arnold
