Animal control officers see a lot of animals pass through the county shelter. So, when they take it upon themselves to find rescue for an animal, we know the animal is extra special! This is the case with Dixie! OPP received an urgent plea from Athens-Clark county to help this sweet girl who had been picked up by animal control with her pups. When we heard her story, she had less than 8 hours to live. Dixie was a great mom to her pups! And, as any great mom would do, Dixie protected her pups from another dog by snapping to get the dog to back off. Problem is this "behavior" though innate - is not acceptable in a county shelter, and Dixie was put into isolation to be released only to a rescue group. As her pups were adopted and taken away, the animal control officer reported that Dixie stood and whimpered. Then she was given a death date. When OPP was contacted, this great mom had less than 8 hours to live. We quickly went to work and found a place for her. Our wonderful volunteers, Wende and Catrina, drove to Athens to get her. Now Dixie needs to find her own home! She is shy at first meeting, but quickly warms up: especially to kids! Please take time to meet this girl!
