Gertrude Pennyford III ((A.K.A. Penny))

Boston Terrier

Penny is my 10 year old Boston Terrier. She has been my best friend for most of my life and hopefully this will continue on for many more years. I love her dearly. I first got Penny for my birthday after having trouble with my first dog, a Sharpei named Aimee, who was too big for our household. She is very kind and rarely barks. She loves people and other animals and has never once intentionally caused harm to someone although, when she was little our neighbors shot her with a bb-gun for standing in their yard. We would have never known had it not been for the vet finding the bbs in her shoulder when she went in to get spayed. Right now she is in near-perfect health. A fat bubble resides in one of her eyes and she gets weird lumps on her stomach and legs that we used to get removed but the vet has now suggested to just leave them and not put her through the stress of surgery. They are supposedly causing no harm. Even though we went through some hard times with training she has remained my friend and always will be. Sadly, Penny has just been diagnosed with cancer, or -to be more precise- a tumor on her kidney. Due to her old age the vet advises us to not let her be operated on. If we would choose to do so she would be shipped across the state and -if the cancer has spread- they simply said that they would not wake her up. She passed away February 11, 2011. After months of fighting cancer she couldn't hardly stand for two seconds so we took her in. She was buried in the pet cemetery behind the vet's office because I would not have her cremated and refused to store the body until the ground would thaw. The vet had buried her for us for free where as he usually charges. It took less than 1/10th of the euthanasia to get her to collapse, so I'm pretty sure she was ready. I miss her dearly but she will always be in my heart.

What a big sweetie. Your neighbors need someone to stick that bb gun up their... well, you get the idea. Anyway, Penny is beautiful and I hope she has a long happy life with you. Belly rubs and biscuits for her.
