Hannah Clarice

German Shepherd Dog

Hannah has been the matriarch of our family for years. In her old age she had retired to her little corner by the bed where she can prop her hind legs up so her dysplasia doesnt hurt so bad. She doesnt get many walks anymore but we play with her in the yard and play what little fetch she can get away with before hurting to bad. She used to love to go swimming, playing swords with sticks, running after anything and is still well apt at destorying any size stick. We sometimes call her the "Shredder" and should have probably named her that but you don't see those characteristics until long after you've given a name. ************ UPDATE*********** Hannah my beloved passed on Friday the 10th of December, at home with her head in my hands as I told her "I loved her" as she slowly slipped away. Hannah's dysplasia had got to the point where she could no longer get up on her own, just to go to the bathroom. I had hoped to push is past Christmas but she just degraded too quickly. One of the few places that Hannah was ever nervous was the vet...any vet. So I found a vet who would come to the home and send her off. I did not want Hannah's last minutes spent in fear or anxiety. The vet we had come to the house was wonderful, respectful and offered all options, explained everything etc. This started as a poem and maybe I will finish it one day but - Good Bye my dear Hannah! Bite 'em! Oh my baby bear How much you filled my life How much you filled my heart with only the love a companion like you could give. From your black and fire red hair as a pup To the grey tuffts on your snout near the end. You showed me your true gentle nature And protected our home from threats and watched our beds From those who might hurt us as we slept but now near the end, I just worry for you. Worry you are in pain Worry you are inflamed Worry you are happy in your little corner But now I am free of that worry and can bathe in the happy memories you given Like your first swimming lesson and how you came to love water Your first real training and how proud and excited you were to show off When I realized you had moved from puppyhood to adult life and realized my little girl had grown up. Every time you looked lovingly into my eyes and we made that connection. I will miss you girl, from your funny "heads up" thing you did with your head and neck to the many many times we cuddled up near or on the couch in your senior years. You were the smartest dog I ever had with a vocabulary pushing 200 words that you could understand. I was so afraid to let you go. You were my baby hannahranna, rananna, ranny, banana bear, senior bear, big bear, H bear, and the million other names you had.

Thanks everyone! Its finally warm enough to try the wheels so, were going to try this weekend. Sorry for your loss Doggone1973 - we actually just lost our other dog Diego to old age. Its never easy. Its hard loosing a best friend. Note to: "Maddie the dog", I was actually "raised" by a GSD/Malmute mix named Maddy the Dog. My parents got her a few days before I came home from the hospital as a newborn. She was my best friend until I was 15. :)
Extremely beautiful!! I hope the Doggie Wheels work well for her!!
