In a nutshell, my little black pomeranian India is the answer to some thirty-mumble years of wishes, hopes and dreams. You see, I've always been violently allergic to anything with fur or feathers, yet I've wanted a puppy since I was about four. At Christmas (age five) all my friends were making wish-lists on behalf of their puppies, so I made one for "my puppy", a Snoopy dog that I'd dragged around by the ears for years in lieu of a "real puppy." I asked for dog biscuits for Snoopy, and my parents, not being ones to squash a small child's imagination, gave them to me. And I, desperate to have a real dog of my own, ate a dog biscuit every day "for Snoopy" (until my parents caught me and explained to me that the faux-puppy life didn't need to be carried to that extent). (Fast forward) Last fall, I met a pom that didn't make me stop breathing or hive up or sneeze. Hope crept into my heart like ivy tendrils taking hold of a brick wall. After much searching, I found a breeder nearby (Cyndi Wolfe of Wolfe Kennels) who raised poms and was incredibly patient with me. I visited her house to see if I could tolerate other poms, I held her pups and smooshed them in my face to see if they'd make me hive, and I visited India when she was 6 weeks old to see if, maybe, she'd be the semi-hypo-allergenic pup that I'd been searching for. (At this point I should confess that if I don't take my Zyrtec every day, and if India doesn't get bathed with the allergen-suppressing shampoo every week, and if I don't remember *not* to rub my eyes, then the story would certainly have a different ending. But as it is, I have a little ball of black fluffylove that I adore. India's just over 10 months old no and incredibly spirited ("sassy" is how one of my friends describes her). She "talks" a lot (apparently common with poms) and is quite clever: she can "sit" (momentarily, I admit), "down", "spin", "walk" (on her rear legs), "creep" (on her belly), "shake" and "speak". Everywhere we go, people want to pet her (and I can't blame them, as she's as soft as a stuffie) and for her part she wants nothing more than to increase the "net love" in the universe with kisses. She's even philanthropic -- at Halloween she and I walked in the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation walk -- with her in costume as a bat and me as Draculette -- and raised more than $600. GLAD TO SEE YOU GOT YOUR WISH FOR A DOG. AND YOU COULDN'T HAVE PICKED A BETTER BREED. TO ME POMS ARE THE BEST AND ARE PREFECT. AND YES SASSY AND TALKING ALOT IS A TRAIT OF THE BREED, AND THEY PRETTY MUCH STAY THAT WAY THRU OLD AGE. MINE DIDN'T START SLOWING DOWN TILL ABOUT AGE 10(YEARS) BUT THE TALKING AND SASSY WAS THERE TILL THE END. NOW THE OLDER THEY GET THE MORE THEY WILL SLEEP AND TAKE IT EASY BUT IF YOU GO THEN THEY WANT TO GO TOO. THAT NEVER STOPS. I WILL ALWAYS HAVE A POM OR TWO. MATTER OF FACT I AM LOOKING FOR ONE NOW. I LOST MY BABY GIRL AWHILE BACK AND HER MATE IS OLD AND HAS A BAD HEART SO I AM STARTING MY SEARCH FOR ANOTHER ONE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOURS KEEP HER SAFE MANY HAPPY AND FUN, AND LOVING YEARS TO YOU BOTH.

Thanks guys -- she is a sweet pea (if a talkative, energetic little one)! I don't know what I'd do without her :-)
