LUCKY

Border Collie / English Springer Spaniel
Male
No

Lucky came to me from a shelter in MD who transported him from a shelter in W.VA known for gassing dogs. He is so named because: 1) His rear left paw has a deformity (only one toe); thereby, making him very unlikely to be sold by his breeder. It looks like a "Lucky" rabbit's foot. 2) He shares a birthday with Salvatore "Lucky" Luciano and the fact that they both survived a near-death experience. 3) He is black/white and has a single dot on each of his right front & rear paws. In gambling, snake eyes is getting only one pip on each die. The pair of pips resembles a pair of snake eyes. The dictionary of etymology traces that use of the term back to 1929, although it may be traced all the way back to the ancient Roman dice games, where 'Dogs' represented two ones. They referred to this as "the dog throw". While that may not be "lucky" for some, it was for this dog. 4) I was "lucky" enough to be the first to complete the adoption application and to be approved to become his new mom.
