Lucy was rescued along with Salti. At 7 months old, she was very shy dog and terrified around people and was very skinny due to other dogs eating her food. The breeder was given this puppy as a trade for allowing her other dogs to stud a litter for another breeder. However, Lucy was not suitable for breeding because she is handicapped. We were told that she had a nerve problem in her hind legs, but then also told it was possible that someone stepped on her as a small pup but never fessed up to it. Therefore, she walks with her rear legs nearly straight most of the time and her lower back is humped up, looking as if several of the bones fused together. We rescued Lucy who was supposed to live with a friend of mine who was also handicapped and had lost his last dog a few months prior. However, he was unable to take her due to risks to his immune system. My boyfriend, David, took her under his wing and in a matter of weeks, she has blossomed into a confident doggie, playing with her doggie friends and actually nestling with him without being coaxed. Love has brought her confidence and happiness. She does not know she is handicapped and she dances around with joy like a little tap dancer. We love our Lucy girl. Her smile light up our lives as we hope we have been able to have done for her.
