Maisy Mae

Maisy Mae was adopted around age 7 from a shelter. I saw her face on petfinder and knew I had to go and get her. I had been doing boxer rescue for a long time but decided it was time to adopt the seniors. Her soulful eyes burned right through the screen to my heart. She blended with our white furballs quite easily and soon because my best friend. She was a crazy girl, always taking all the toys outside to play with, and Echo would slowly bring them all in only for her to return them to the yard. She loved to cuddle with me all wrapped up in a warm blanket. Anyone who thinks adopting a senior dog is not worthwhile has lost out on a truly wonderful experience. Her last year of her life she became stone deaf, and then she became very vocal. We laughed at how long she would chew a squeaky toy because of course she couldn't hear it! She was a petite little girl weighing only 45 lbs. At age 9 she developed Cushings disease and during the treatment she caught pneumonia and no longer could fight it. We helped her to the bridge and it was the worst day of my life. I know she is happily running now and waiting for me at the Bridge. Godspeed my beloved lady...

I am so thankful to be the first to comment on your beautiful girl. We loved reading her story and you are to be commended for giving her a final, loving home. She sounds like such was a wonderful girl. Boxer will always have a special place in our hearts. Cherish her memories and she'll be in your heart forever. God Bless!!!

We, too, lost our "shelter" dog July 2008! We adopted, Mattie, as an adult dog and had loved her for over 13 years! Mattie became deaf and blind, but, I, Daisy would grab her ear and lead her around. When we ran in the field and my mom wanted us to come, I would go get Mattie and grab her ear and lead her back to mom so we could go home. In my first year at my new home, Mattie & I would play, but in the last year, Mattie needed more care and I just tried to help out. Senior dogs are the best companions!!!!

Your story touched me deeply...Maisy was so lucky to have been in your family during the last couple of years!!!! I lost my little Chewie(Shih Tzu) last May to Cushings(he was 8 years old). When we brought Libby (our Boxer) home, we saw that she was born on the day that Chewie passed so we beleive that Chewie sent her to us!!!! He loved us that much and we LOVED him more!!!!! This was the first time I had read The Rainbow Bridge......

I am so sorry for your loss of Maisy Mae. I wonder if she knew just how blessed she was to have you or if she thought all humans were as kind. She is with all her new friends who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and we will all reunite someday :o)

What a sweet, lovely story. I just ADORE what you said about adopting senior pups- I am in such admiration of you for that. I, too, had never heard the term "rainbow bridge" until being a member of Daily puppy. I'm sure your Maisy Mae had the most loving, safest, warmest last few years w/ you. I like to think she is romping around in Heaven w/ all the filet mignon she wants and she hears everything! Imagine she's just chilling on a soft cloud right now like a total princess. I know you'd kill to have he w/ you right now, and I am so sorry for your loss. You will see her again one day, though. Btw, I love he jowls-so cute and funny.
