Munch - My Childhood Friend.

Bearded Collie / Border Collie

I'm very sure many people can relate to my story when it comes to my childhood best friend, Munch. I remember clearly the day my dad walked through the front door holding that tiny collie-cross pup in his arms - and how I instantly fell in love with him. I was four years old then, and couldn't possibly think of a proper name! We named him 'Munch' - I think it was a joke between my parents, but I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that despite it being the most ludicrous-sounding name for a dog, it holds a special meaning for me. I suppose you could say that, as an only child, I relished the puppy's company and that it was this that tied us so closely together. I think I needed him more than I knew. I went through the best and worst parts of my early life with this dog, and not once did he ever let me down. He was always there. He was one of those dogs who, despite being quite solitary, would always lay his head on your lap and look questioningly into your eyes when he could sense something was hurting you. I feel foolish in saying this, but I would be lying if I said otherwise: this dog made me who I am today, he helped me through everything. I think I relied on him a lot more than most dog-owners, admittedly. I was nearing fifteen when we were informed that he was blind and had an infection in his kidneys that caused them to leak protein. He was suffering each day: he couldn't urinate, loud noises frightened him, he was in pain, he was weak...the list goes on. To make things worse, there was nothing that they could do to help him. His only option was to be put to sleep. I had only been fifteen for a week when I lost my dearest friend. It was too unreal to even come to terms with. It still is, sometimes. I am now nineteen and there hasn't been a day gone by since then that I haven't missed him. After all, you never forget the dog whom you grew up with. Which is why I had to include him in my DailyPuppy. He will always mean the world to me and I want the world to know that.

i know exactly how you feel. i lost my loving dog Taco and on December 10, i lost my sweet Bella. She didnt have a chance to grow up. She was only 6 and a half months old and boy do i know how it hurts to lose your baby. they were both hit by cars. I, like you, depended on my dog as though she were the only thing that mattered. I loved her the way a mother loves her child. and even though i know she is in a much better place, a better place than me, i also feel as if she has left me. i still go to visit her grave, and take things of hers down there to her. Im so sorry for you loss. does it ever get easier? please check out my sweet Bella and the newest additions to our family.
