This is Nikkou Daisuke, a natural eared Bouvier des Flandres, whose Japanese names in English mean "sunshine" and "great help". He has been training since he was 9 weeks old to work in Search and Rescue to do tracking, trailing and human remains recovery. Nikkou is now 6 years old and is a great worker who loves his job! He is certainly my sunshine (and the center of my universe) and a great help as well. We plan add to his skills and train him in water human remains detection so he can help find drowning victims. He's a natural for this since he loves riding in boats and swimming. The Bouvier des Flandres breed originated in the Flanders area of Belgium and France as an all purpose farm and family dog. They are intelligent, bold, strong, loyal to family and are dogs that like to have a job. Many Bouviers work in herding, protection, carting, as personal service dogs or do sports such as agility, obedience, schutzhund and tracking. And some lucky ones like mine work in the Search and Rescue field. Nikkou & I were members of the North American Working Bouvier Association (NAWBA). The Bouvier is not a dog for everyone, and does require frequent grooming, exercise and training, but they are a very wonderful, intelligent, and "magical" breed of dog that is quite addictive if it's the right fit for you.
