All in the Family
Jess Cassey Othello

Olivia came into our lives in December 2005 after I saw her at the pet store. When I looked at her and the other puppies that were in the cage, she was so much smaller - clearly the runt of the litter. My heart broke I knew that there was a very slim chance that someone would take her because of how she looked, and I knew I had to take her home. I guess I should have senced that she had problems, and I had my suspicions but I believed that we could give her a good home and she would grow up like our other two dachshunds. One Friday afternoon, after lying on the bed with her, she could not stand when I picked her up and put her down on the grass. I rushed her off to the vet, but shortly after I arrived she gave her final breath and there was nothing the vet could do to save her. When I went to say goodbye in the back room of the practice, I noticed how big she looked, almost as if she was as big as she would have been fully grown. I know what I think may not be quite right, but I pray that she has a special place in heaven, has toys and treats a plenty, has a yard that is never ending for running and playing, has friends to run and play with and a warm bed to snuggle up in for rest. God bless her soul, she was beautiful.
