All in the Family

Golden Retriever / Samoyed

Our beautiful "Philly" girl. In loving memory... I am new to this site, can you help! Our beautiful Philly is a Golden Retriever / Samoyed cross. Her date of birth is 7th April 2006. I remember visiting Parramatta Westfield Shopping Centre with my husband while I was 7 months pregnant with our first child. Rob and I walked past a pet shop in Parramatta called Pets World and could not resist stopping to see the cutiest puppy in the world to me. I fell inlove with her instantly. My husband, Rob also thought she was the cutiest thing he had ever seen. Then reality hit him and he realised I had that certain look in my eyes. Immediately I wanted to hold her and she felt so soft and cuddly. I said "Wow she is so beautiful Rob, can we get her." Rob convinced me to have lunch and talk about it before jumping in. We weren't looking to buy a dog and he was reluctant to buy her because we had many sleepless nights ahead of us when our first child is born. After he voiced his opinion, while sitting in food court. My eyes started to welt up with tears, keeping in mind I was in a very emotional state being 7 months pregnant and thinking I wasn't going to be able to take this beautiful puppy home. I couldn't hold it back, tears went everywhere and I think my husband felt there was no turning back. How could he upset a pregnant woman! The gods were on my side and we bought our beautiful Philly, 5 minutes after. She was 10 weeks old. Philly was the best puppy I had ever had and everybody she met just fell inlove with her. She was so good with our children too, so loving and supportive. If anyone was upset you can bet that Philly was right there sitting sitting side by side right next to you. She was our angel, our beautiful girl and very much part of our family. Just before Christmas 2010, Philly got out while I was putting Christmas reindeer statue in the front yard. I didn't even see her get out and within 10 minutes she was on the main road and was hit by a silver 4WD on 20th December along Albany Creek Road, Aspley QLD. A witness told us the man who was driving the 4WD in his 50's stopped to check his front wheel then got back in the car and drove off. Philly's pelvis was shattered, however she survived the accident and was getting better after her surgery which included a plate, rod and 9 screws. The doctors were fantastic. Unfortunately unbeknown to all of us, during her 6 hour surgery, she threw up and the acid sitting in her oesophagus had fatally burnt the area which then made her unable to swallow. We were forced to make a decision we never thought we would have to. This has been so devastating to the family and especially to me. She was like my first child and I will always see her like that. I am asking for your help, I am in no way ready to buy another puppy yet, but I am hoping someone out there could help me locate Philly's breeders in NSW, so (at the right time) I could purchase another puppy within Philly's family. My email is and all I know is the store we purchased Philly at. Can you help. Thank you for reading my story, and thank you to everyone who has emailed me their special thoughts, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Diana

I had tears in my eyes reading your story. I can't even imagine what you went through losing our beautiful Philly! I lost my beautiful Nikki in September 2010. She was a puppy I instantly fell in love with just like you did. Luckily I had her for 13 years. I wish you good luck in finding the breeder and that you can get another puppy as lovely as your Philly was!
