All in the Family
Teddy Bria Beau

American Eskimo Dog

This is Snowy, our beloved 3 year old Eskie, who recently (12/2/08) died an unnecessary death due to the neglect of his original owner, a shelter and a rescue organization. None of them bothered to test Snowy for heartworm disease and he was never on HW prevention. Fortunately, not all shelters and rescues are this irresponsible. My husband and I adopted Snowy unknowingly with this disease and did everything to try and save him but by the time we started his treatments it was too late. He had a severe case of heartworms. We were blessed for only six months while loving and caring for our precious Snowy. Words can't express how badly I miss him :o( Please do not take heartworm prevention lightly. As long as there are mosquitoes there will be a risk of heartworm disease, regardless of where you live. Please do not confuse this disease with "intestinal" worms as "heart" worms are much more severe and if not treated early will be fatal. The advantages of HW prevention FAR outweigh any disadvantages of using this preventative. The risk a person takes by not safeguarding their dog isn't fair to the dog. Anyone who says that heartworm prevention isn't necessary is plain ignorant. They have never experienced what I, and countless other people, have to make such a statement. I wish the best of health to everyone's pets. Please use heartworm prevention once a month all year round including your cats, whether they are indoor or outdoor, because there is no cure for cats who contract HW disease. I love you my precious Snowy and I hope you and I are helping a lot of pet mommies and daddies realize just how important it is to be tested and given a yummy heartworm chewable every month- We will be together again my sweet angel...

Poor Snowy. Who knows how long he could have had with you if his previous caretakers hadn't been so lax and downright ignorant. At least he spent his final months with people who truly loved and cared for his health.

I am so sorry you had that experience a rescue should always test for Heartworm immediately when getting a dog. Both my dogs are from a wonderful Eskie rescue that gave them all necessary medical before adopting them out! I am so sorry for your loss Snowy was very beautiful.

I hope your sad loss will convince others to take heartworm prevention seriously. Snowy was gorgeous. At least he found loving owners to take care of him at the end of his too short life.

Snowy was so blessed to have you. She was beautiful. Take comfort knowing you did all you could for her. Snowy knows that, and is ever grateful. She is with Beau and they are playing happily together until they see you again one day. Hugs from Oliver's Mummy

We are so sorry for the loss of your beloved Snowy. Thank you so very much for sharing your story about heartworm disease and making us all aware of the consequences if not treated. I looked at all your pets and read their bios and it seems you are a very caring & loving person who loves their pets. Thank you for rescuing so many and giving them the care they need. Boris and Morris are gorgeous boys! Bless you and your family for rescuing sooo many precious furr-babies! They have certainly found the right home ;o) ~~ You can't change the world by adopting an animal, but you can change the whole world for that animal ~~ ... as you have done for sooo many, bless your hearts!

Oh my goodness Snowy was just beautiful, it is so disgusting how some people treat animals, he will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him xox
May 28, 2009 Cricket7
hmm... I don't know how my post about Boris and Morris ended up here on Snowy's page, but I do know it's is the 2nd time this happens. The 1st was a message to another Boris and was left on my Bowie's page... anyone have any ideas? Could it just be happening with dogs named Boris? LOL! Thank you Alex_J for your comment :o) ...btw, it is Alex J's Boris and Morris I commented on, maybe this helps explain, or maybe not, lol!
