This was written 6/6/11. Soldier is my first dog. He was adopted by my family on May 8th 2010. Although his birth date and previous lives lead are unknown we have discovered many traits that add to his interesting personality. He was sheltered at Common Sense for Animals in Broadway, New Jersey for several months after being found wandering out and about on Sloane Street, that later being his temporary name. When walking into the shelter the pungent smell was intoxicating. We first were able to see Soldier or Sloane since he just lay there in a cage starring at us without a bark or any movement. We walked him and it was a quick and very rushed into adoption we might have not done without a tad pressure of him being adopted by another. He was named after the military rank a tradition of the family to name the male dog after an army profession. His tail is docked whicth isn't common with his mixture of breeds. He was DNA tested and is said to be Whippet, Tibetan Terrier and a little bit Samoyed. He was probably born around or in 2005 although he acts like a puppy. He a very strong dog whom primarily weighed about 50 pounds and now 70. He has a habit of stealing food hungry or not. He prefers bones to toys and sleeps on a thin bed I had made him. He is very needy and may whine and jump when excited, that does become annoying to most. We didn't teach him many tricks since he is an older boy, he knew to sit with his paw held up, stay, lie down, come, the command 'no' and hug (or spin in circles and rub against your legs). He will bite hoses (and strangely flashlights) when turned on, the shelter cages having been washed down with a hose while the dog was still in it. He's a good dog with a mysterious past that we'll never know. If you want to know more about Soldier please do ask, or I might add more information as time goes on.
