Hello. My name is Taffy. I am a purebred cocker spaniel. My mom adopted me in May 2010 when my name was Sandy which explains my blog url. I had been at the ASPCA shelter on 92nd Street in Manhattan for four months. I was brought there on my birthday, Christmas Day, by my original parents who said they could no longer afford me. I had pneumonia and weighed 17 pounds. I believe they turned me in to the shelter where they knew I would receive medical attention. I was four and a half years old. In January, a woman adopted me because her daughter thought she ought to have a dog. She returned me to the shelter after a week. I didn't like her, either. Another woman came along in March. Same experience. Then, along came my current mom in May. I put her through her paces. I threw up every morning, peed and pooped all over the house, had her taking me out four and five times a day and barked for hours on end. Mom just hugged me, cleaned up the messes and said we would work it out. She took me to a great vet who told mom how to clear up my skin problems and put me on a hypo-allergenic diet. I am also hypo-thyroid and take medicine twice a day. I guess I'm pretty spirited because mom is always in trouble with the neighbors for letting me run off leash. We go to the park some times but it's boring. We live in a beautiful condominium setting in northern Westchester county, NY. There are lots of trees and grass, chipmunks and rabbits, squirrels and deer. I am six years old now and healthy thanks to my vet, diet and grooming. Mom takes me everywhere with her, even if I have to wait in the car. There are lots of places she goes which like me and I can run around the stores and gardens. Mom is a jazz singer and when she practices, I like to stretch out on the floor, throw my hind legs out behind me and just groove. At night, I love being groomed and hop up on mom's bed and stretch out to let her know it's time to brush me. I think I'll keep this mom. We've adopted each other!

This is the picture of a well-loved animal! So happy she finally found a forever home. I have a rescue Cocker too, and it is worth it every step of the way. Taffy looks like a beautiful, loving girl. She is lucky to have found her home and you are so lucky to have her. Long life and many bikkies, Taffy!

Taffy you steal my heart, and I am so happy that you have a good Mom now. My Baily passed away 7 1/2 months ago, (a cocker spaniel), and I still cry for him every day. I had him for almost 16 years. I was & still am his Mom. Those other people didn't deserve you; they were not worthy. I love looking at pictures of cockers. You are so very beautiful. May your Mom continue spoiling you!!!!!

Thank you, Daily Puppy for remembering Miss Taffy's birthdays. She will soon be nine! She is stretched out in the home office and she is snoring away contently. Taffy continues to be challenged with skin and ear problems but our vet referred us to a wonderful dermatologist who took an aggressive approach and now Taffy is healthy. Part of her care includes baths twice a week and ear drops twice a day. She is a darling about both. Taffy is still my best pal. We have a local dog park now where she can run and play off leash. She likes to chase a tennis ball and take it to the front gate. She will not bring it to me. Sometimes, she just taps it with her paw to show she has it and waits for me to come get it! She travels to Boston from NY with me every month for the weekend and stays at the Pooch Hotel where she plays with other dogs and has her own suite. She is starting to trust again, yesterday she jumped on the bed and lay down beside me with her head (instead of her behind) facing me. Taffy has been a life saver for me and these days she smiles. Thank you to everyone for your kind words. Taffy's Mom
