All in the Family

i'm sorry, i know i already added trouble but i really need some answers. i have put trouble in obediance class and he flunked. he bites and barks and nips and shreds. i don't want to get rid of him because i am making a commitment to have him have a good home, but nothing works. i have scolded him before, but all i got in return was a nip. i've tried a shock collar but i feared it would hurt him. turns out, he can break loose of it. i really need some strong punishment that will make him listen. pleaz help! by the way, i have already gotten bitten 28 times!

Trouble is super cute and it is tough to have a dog that is a handful. I would say keep trying and not to give up. Maybe you can find some good books on training or even a local animal behaviorist. That should help. Stick in there these type of dogs need loving the most.

Awwwww. I understand. Maybe you should take him on a walk. If he pulls, put a chocker collar on and a harnness. [unless you have already] When you think he is about to bit you, gives him a chew toy. Maybe he is just stressed out! Dogs LOVE TO CHEW!!!!!! What I did was, put bitter yuck on it the place where he chewed. [Bitter yuck is a bda tasting spray.] Try to find that. Put importank papers/files in a safe plac, maybe in a closet. Hang in there!!! Hope this helps!

I don't know if you have tried this but my son and daughter-in-law used the Ceasar Millan method and swear by it. I know one thing they told me is you have to establish dominance and how they did it with their large puppy is that whenever she started biting or jumping up they literally put her on her back and straddled her until she calmed down! They held on to her paws and told her to calm down and would not let her up until she relaxed. Then they would let her up and give her a treat. There is much more to this plan I know, but my son said it is a great method that works. Here is a link for you...good luck!!

He's an alpha. Had one just like yours. I was going to get an older BIGGER dog to help me teach her maners, and that she wasent the boss. In packs the older dogs teach the young ones respct and their place. He knows that your afraid. Stand up to him.

I've had a couple rambunctious, tough, good dogs and as you know the main issue is how much energy they have stored up. They are bred that way and have intense needs to run & play and if they can't they will do what they can to release the energy that's stored up. Any way you can take him to an off leash dog park a couple times a week will help immensely.

***Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear about Trouble being naughty. Maybe if you could tell me his birthday, as when puppies are about 6-12 months old they go through a teething stage and tend to nip & chew on alot of things. And puppies overall just tend to play-bite, but I'm guessing by the tone of his bio this is not play-biting. If you maybe give him lots of walks, we will get rid of alot more energy and then when you come home he would be so bummed out that he will just flop straight down onto his bed. When he misbehaves just ignore him (dogs absolutely hate it when they're ignored) or scold him VERY harshly. Remember, you're the master, not him, and he has to do what you say. Pippin used to be wild & crazy (she's kinda still crazy) but now she's alot better behaved. I hope this has helpe you, and that Trouble will stop being trouble soon!***
