Barney is a Catahoula Leopard dog that we rescued at the age of two. He'd been in and out of foster care most of his life. He was so mellow and sweet, we thought he was the perfect dog! But he was just too mellow and too quiet, so after several trips to the vet and my persistence we finally got a diagnosis of Canine Ehrlichiosis, Brown Dog Tick Disease. He wasn't mellow; he was dying! He's still on medication and may be for life, but he now digs up the yard (his nose is constantly dirty) and plays fetch until I drop. And he eats as if he's part pig. That tail of his that never used to wag is now a weapon. It's more of a whip than a tail! My luckiest day ever was the day we found Barney. God bless the rescue groups that take care of these dogs until we find them.
Barney has such a striking face. What a lucky dog that you found him when you did and saved his life! Enjoy each other for many years to come.

Wow! What a great dog. He has such lovely markings. He sounds like he is feeling so much better. Pretty soon, he will exceed all of your expectations. I adopted a docile dog two years ago who also became "energetic" once she felt better. Some days were exhausting. She has now settled in to a routine and feels secure and loved. We adore her.

He's gorgeous.I love Catahoulas.I caught Ehrlichiosis myself once from a tick.Made me sick as...well,you know..I'm glad you got a diagnosis for him,I couldn't figure what in the world was wrong with me.Happy.healthy long life to his from now on!

What a beautiful dog! I have a Catahoula mix that I adopted 7 years ago. He is one of the best dogs I've ever had! It's great to see a picture of another one and see the resemblance. My Merlin is a brindle color and very different looking.
