Gabriella says: "Hi, I am Gabriella the basset hound, but I go by "Ella" or "Houndie". I am over 13 years old, sassy as I ever was, and alternately independent and needy. My mom adopted me when I was seven weeks old. I was an only dog for a couple years, but somehow acquired three brothers along the way. It seems like every few years on one of Mom's trips to make donations to a local animal shelter, another sibling comes home with her. Although I like my fur brothers just fine and will hop around and play once in while, I still wish I were an only dog. I love people, and I love to talk and socialize. My mom and dad bought an old fixer-upper house, and I've been busy this past year supervising all their projects. Luckily, one of them was a fence for the side yard for us where we can play and run free. I'm on a supplement for a little arthritis in my back knees so I'm not nearly as fast as I used to be. But I don't hesitate to chase a squirrel or rabbit when I see one, using my beautiful hound voice to bay the whole time."
Gabriella looks and sounds like she is in great shape for her age.
She is a lovely dog.
Darlin' Ella, you have eyes that could melt the polar ice caps. Ears to soothe a nation. If I could hear your singing, I think it would touch my soul. The blues of course but not the sad kind, the kind that makes you feel great! Sing on, sister friend!
Where I work, after lunch, we have a walking program. Every day when we get to a certain house, a wonderful Basset Hound, that we've named Harley, always greets us. I don't think he knows a stranger. You're a wonderful breed, Gabriella......... HUGS and KISSES to you........
Bassets always look so serious! It's a good trick, because they are such fun dogs. Ella is gorgeous, and I'm sure she rules the house!
Bassetts are so funny and sweet! My little boy Col. Bogey was the cutest, softest thing in the world & I wish he could have made it to Ella's stage in life. She does look like she's in pretty good shape and that's sayin' somethin". Keep up the good work, family!

Yes, our girl is in great shape for her age (will be 14 in March), despite an emergency splenectomy in September 2006. If I hadn't had her from wee puppyhood, I would swear she is younger. I just adore Basset Hounds!! I love their floppy ears and droppy eyes! Gabriella is just adorable! Kisses and belly rubs for her from me!
I love Gabriella's big ears and soulful eyes! Looks like she knows a lot more about life than any of us "hairless monkeys". If her arthritis gets worse, some really effective things I tried for my beloved old Chow Chow were acupuncture and Adequan. He could barely walk due to arthritis, but after his second acupuncture session he was running again! I also know of two dogs that were totally paralyzed in their hind legs who can now walk due to acupuncture. Also, the Adequan is a mix of 3 different joint protectors and works very well, too. It's injectable and starts off costing a fair amount, but gets cheaper as you get past the first month of shots, and it really helps. My 3 oldest pooches are on it, and you'd never know they were nearly teenagers in people years!
I'm glad that Gabriella not only found such a great home herself, but that she has siblings now, even if she's not 100% sure she wants them around!
