Dog Breed: Boxer / American Bulldog

Leuka is my deaf dog. I adopted her after a nice lady rescued her from a shelter that was going to euthanize her just because she is deaf! Leuka is a great dog and proof that deaf dogs can lead happy, normal lives. Everyone that meets her loves her, and she loves them too! She is very attuned to body language, and has learned several hand signal commands already. I hope that one day Leuka and I can help to educate people on deaf dogs, help new owners train their dog, as well as help deaf dogs in shelters find homes more easily.

How could anyone destroy a face like this! I know, but they do. It was meant for you to rescue Leuka and I agree, maybe you and Leuka can change the world on the way people view deaf dogs. Although I do not find Boxers to be particularly "cute" there is something very sweet looking in this one's eyes. She looks soft, gentle and snuggly. I'm happy she found a wonderful home - thank you for taking her - she deserves a good life - you can see it in her eyes - she knows she has done well!

She is beautiful...she doesn't know she's deaf....she just thinks the world is a very quiet place. She looks an awful lot like an American Bulldog....but you say she is a Boxer mix? No matter...she is wonderful...and the other dog in the photo with her is super sweet too! Merry Christmas!

Hi!!! This is Suzy, I am the owner of Leuka. Thank you so much for the kind words about my sweet little deaf dog! She might be mixed with or even full blood American Bulldog. Other people have thought Pit Bull and Argentinian Dogo... As she has gotten older and filled out, I have come to think that she is American bulldog mixed with Boxer; but, she could be any of those... AND, the cute little aussie in the pic is her "sister" Daisy; she also has a "brother" Watson that is not in any of the pics... Thanks again!

Proof that deaf dogs can be happy! Just show this pic to anyone who thinks otherwise. In fact, why don't you take your pics to the animal shelter and have them post some on their bulletin board to show how happy these dogs can be? Many belly rubs and happy days to Leuka (who looks like a purebred American bulldog to me), Daisy, and Watson.

You're very wise. We had a deaf dog and he learned sign language. Dogs learn a lot from observing, so just being deaf is no problem. Eleven biscuits for Leuka! She looks like a sweetie!!

Leuka, I hope your friend there helps you too. I'm sure that is the case. I took care of my brother's dog when he was overseas. The dog was deaf or almost deaf and my dog was going blind. The two took care of each other in ways that surprised me. Good for you saving Leuka. I'm sure Leuka has helped save you and the people she meets more than we know.

Leuka is very very beautiful!!!! My parents had 3 different Schnauzers in their retired years. The first one was deaf and she was just as happy and playful as the 2 that followed her! I hope you will have many more great years with Leuka!!!!!!!!
