Piper is a 5-year-old Border Collie/Heeler/Pointer/JRT mix (our best guess, anyways). She does it all--points, herds and rats! We rescued her from a bad situation in the high desert of Nevada, where she'd been a stray puppy, adopted and then relinquished by her new owner after the owner became ill. We fell in love with her online and bought her a one-way plane ticket to join our family near Seattle. Our environment and family lifestyle must have been a big shock for her. For the first few months, she mostly groveled, never barked, and didn't know what grass, ponds and lakes were for. She would never turn down a good belly rub, though. Then one day she woke up and realized that everything was going to be all right. She started talking to us in the morning (hysterical, long, garbled "sentences"), making happy barks, and discovered the joy of racing and doing helicopters on the green grass. Today, her favorite activities are walking in the forest, playing with her dog pals at the beach dog park, rolling in dead things (she's fast) and snuggling with our kids (but never after rolling in dead things!). She has aced her obedience classes, become a Certified Therapy Dog and Canine Good Citizen and is begging her mom to try agility. Obedience training has been the best medicine for boosting her confidence. She loves to please!
