Yara is a five-year-old German shepherd from Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and is my second guide dog. She's quite dedicated to her job, spending most mornings trying to rush me out of the house and quite literally prancing beside me in harness with her tail wagging! When she's not making sure I don't walk into trees or into oncoming traffic, she spends her time people-watching or snoozing under my bed. She's a big fan of toys and would carry one around all the time if I weren't fearful she'd lose them outside. Unfortunately, as is quite common with GSDs, she suffers from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), a genetic condition in which the pancreas doesn't make the necessary enzymes to digest food. She got incredibly sick and dropped more than 20 pounds before being diagnosed. She's now fully recovered and as spunky as ever, but requires a very strict diet and an enzyme supplement added to her food.
