Oh my goodness! The 'scruffy' girl is EXACTLY my kinda dog! She's ADORABLE. I'd have her in an instant! XD She looks insane too!

And the brindle boy is also gorgeous! (When you say "a big, I mean biiiig" my ears prick up XD)

I also love Angel! She does have such a sweet face! You're lucky, I'd love to work in a shelter, but there aren't any that are all that close to me When I can drive maybe...

She was quite insane when I took her out. But that's understandable as she has been at the shelter for so long. And we don't have many active volunteers.

Miss Bailey was such a sweetheart. I worked with her in the classroom and took her outside afterward. She had the zoomies big time! Came out of her shell quite a bit, it was likely just the transaction to shelter life that made her so stressed and fearful at first. She got her nose on my camera so some pictures are kind of blurry.(Thankfully I have a protective lens over my real one)








Wiley, a feisty little Miniature Pinscher, he's really confident and friendly. And is in need of a diet and daily exercise... this picture makes him look skinny, he looks like a little potato with legs in person. I took pictures for pet of the week for 3 dogs. Wiley, Kewpie, and Skip.



Kewpie is Wiley's kennel mate, they came in together. She is also friendly and confident and really like Wiley, when I was holding him she kept trying to get to him.(Had to fix his collar) I hope they can get adopted together.


Skip was a very nice boy! He was eager to engage and work, decent manners although he really needs work with jumping. I loved the picture I got of him, his lips got under his teeth.








The head trainer's girl Zeta, she's a Geat Dane/English Mastiff mix, she was taken from a home by animal control because they weren't giving her the proper care. She was chained out with no water or food and was underweight. They gave warnings and nothing changed so they brought her in. They purposefully left her out without any socialization to make her be a guard dog for their marijuana. So she was very fearful, she still is but has made huge improvements. I just recently got into her circle of trusted people.

I took the big guy out today. No name still, come on y'all let's get some unique ideas. (I dislike commonly used names, gotta make these shelter dogs pop!) He was a nice boy, pulls like a freight train though, marked a lot, but has a lot of potential. Just needs someone who will put the time in to work with him.
.... They have him as a Pit Bull mix... One of the more experienced staff was going to tell them to change it to English Mastiff/GSD or something like that.
He's not necessarily tall, he's just big overall.

The trainer holding him so I could get a picture, and for a size comparison, she's pretty tall. I'd put her around 6 foot.... She's very tall compared to me, then again I'm 5,2 lol This boy is taller than me when he stands up.

Grrrr someone wouldn't hold still!

I took out Crush again and let her get her zoomies out, less of them this time, so she's starting to calm down. Yays.

Big guy got adopted!
Cane Corsos could be labeled as very rare around here, so I tried to think of something more common. The GSD influence could narrow the head and pull up the jowls. So to speak. Who knows, he's in a home now. Actually he's at the vet getting fixed.

I took Bailey out again, man was she fun to take out! After taking her out to let her get her zoomies out, I took her in the classroom and worked with her. We accomplished 3 tricks today. Downing from a stand, laying on her side, placing her head on her paw. She really caught on fast! Later we worked off-leash, I worked on following me and she stayed with me even in sharp turns, going backwards,changes in speed. Fantastic gal, very eager to engage and work, she offers a lot of behaviors too. She barks/growls at strangers but in under a minute warmed up to the trainer, so that wouldn't take much to "fix". She just needs a owner who will be actively training with her.

Sorry I slacked off y'all, I've been busy.

I took some pictures of a big boy named Chester for Pet of The Week, nice boy,I didn't get to have him out too long but he loved playing ball in the yard.

Do you ever find it heartbreaking working at the shelter? My sister volunteered at one for a time, and whenever I stopped by to meet her I felt so bad for the dogs there. To be lost, abandoned, left behind... it's just so sad.

The first few months were the hard ones, I didn't know why things worked why they did, things made me angry, I cried, but after awhile you seem to catch on to why things are done, and that people don't want it to happen but there are no kinder options available.

It still can be hard, but I know what to expect and it makes it easier in a way. Kind of hard to word.

Chester needs a family, just look at his face!

As an RN, I worked with some difficult situations. I tried really hard not to focus on the bad, I tried to keep in my mind that during the time I was there, I knew they were being cared for and listened to. The bad stuff is going to happen whether you are there or not. iheartmydog is making a difference for every animal she walks, takes a picture of, or helps in anyway. At least for the time they are with her and other caring people, they matter. Kindness makes a difference.

Tina (me123), I couldn't agree with you more! Cel (iheartmydog) makes a huge difference daily in the lives of these Shelter Dogs and has grown, in huge strides, with her own beloved Dakota. As a teen, she is mature beyond her years and several of us on the DP have had the privilege and pleasure of watching her blossom.

It warms my heart to see that others recognize what a gift she is to the canine community at large, not to mention what a wonderful young woman she is becoming.
