Richard I am very sorry for your loss of Maggie, I'm sure she and your long line of dogs you have enjoyed are all missed.
Glad your son is nearby, it will be nice when you OH comes home. Doesn't sound like anytime soon.

I have discovered what Jackson is, he is a Australian Terrier/Pom mix. Yup, that is him! It seems there are some unethical practices going on around here where Australian Terriers are being touted as Yorkies. It's not important how I found out, just glad I do know what he is.

Kian,As I have said,Maggie was a rescue who had been with me since she was about a year old.I estimate her age to over 15.
I was picking up 2 Siberians from the county shelter and a student who had a summer job there begged me to take her as well.He had adopted her from the general population and she was his constant companion for the summer but he had to return to college and could not take her so she was returned to the shelter and was scheduled for euthanasia that evening.Since she obviously had some Siberian heritage she joined the days rescues and stayed for 14 years...

The OH had revision surgery on her hip implant in November. They discovered that the socket could not be replaced right then and some temporary work was done. She was released to the rehab center of the local Nurseing home to await the final surgery which is coming soon. Then it's back to rehab for a while  She wants to come home NOW!

I was researching the AKC approved Terrier group to see what looked like the nurses puppy and he is a ringer for the Border Terrier....I did see the Australian Terrier as well, they get a pretty good review and are happy indoors or in the field as long as you keep them busy..lotsa luck  ...I did see the admonition somewhere that ."you train them or they will train you"
We all know how we'll THAT works

Richard, I am so sorry to hear about Maggie! I'm not as plugged in as I need to be these days, and I tend to read the news a little late and for that I apologize. Sweetheart, you've certainly had a go of it these past few months. I do hope your wife is able to have that surgery soon and come home. I'm sure she wishes to be out of a hospital setting and back at home with her wonderful husband, and I'm sure you would rather have her there.

How are you managing? It must seem odd to not have a dog in your midst. My heart is breaking for you.

I really wish you had sent me a PM darling. Perhaps you didn't wish a fuss, but I wish you weren't so alone in this. I know your wife is convalescing and is "there", as is your Son, but it's alright to lean on us once in a while. I am sending along big huge hugs.

I've been scrambling a bit of late as I'm trying to go South, and obtain my Passport in a very short period of time. I'm confident that will work. I would be lying if I said I haven't been selfish lately and trying to get my own "house" in order. However, having said that, I am NEVER too busy for you!!!

Jayme, I love those pictures you posted angel.

Maggie had a great home, that is a great story. It would be hard to be without a dog, hope your doing well Richard.

Here is Jackson on the 18th floor of the Hyatt in San Antonio last week. Also in a little mirror fun on the Riverwalk, we took Allie and Jackson. Richard I did check out Border Terriers, he defintely is more Australian Terrier.

LOL Richard he has already tried to train me....didn't work.

Nezza he is also full of himself! He is a good boy. He tries to take Ice on and Ice just looks at him and bats his paw at him with a look like "really?".....

Kian,Jackson is a real cutie, like Nezza says "super Adoreable". I can see why you fell in love with him...Terriers are another ball game fo sure..I do know a few Terrier folks from the Dogshows..Ever notice how much like their dogs the fanciers are ?
Some look like thier dogs others act like them..The movie,Best in Show, was a delicious bit of satire.BTW most Terriers ARE full of themselves and the boys cannot stand each other as a rule.

Deb,don't worry about me I do just fine on my own.The OH is in the local Nurseing home where they can look after her better than I can at home..( it's only about a 1/2 mile from home.Since I must be away in dialysis for ESRD 3 days each week, she would be here alone..Not a good idea....

Thank you all for your thoughts about Maggie, she outlived her "mortal enemy",Sabrina by a few months..Those two were funny, they could live side by side in adjoining runs but let them out into the yard together and they would lock gazes and freeze for a moment then all hell would break loose.. .I then had to wade in and separate the combatants before any damage was done..I didn't need another vet bill.Actually if anyone got hurt it was usually me

Thanks Nezza, she had a much longer life with me and our doggie friends than she was scheduled for the day I brought her home. She got along well with every one with everyone except Sabrina who for some reason was "out to kill her"( or at least teach her some manners )

Siberians are pack dogs and naturally get along together better than some breeds.Of course if a bitch is in season all bets are off. I shall miss the breed but after a life of "risky behavior" I am now 82 and I may not have the time left to commit to another dog... Sheesh...Today risky behavior entails drinking too much liquid between dialysis treatments. It once was professional motorcycle raceing, working on moveing machinery, mountain climbing and the most dangerous of all,ROMANCE

Naw you haven't missed much Richard. I sure wish I could tap into some of your showring secrets. We had a fun match on Saturday and the wild child lived up to his image. We didn't have a real judge and he had the perfect stack, she was writing stuff down which took a long time and by the time she turned around his attention was gone, long gone. Of course he knew her and wanted to let her know! She is a good friend, it was all in fun. We will press forward and onward!

Allie did her first OB trial and I thought she did fantastic! She did get a qualifying score, but it isn't official as it was a fun match.

Ice has his DNA-VP now, just his CERF is left to do and that is scheduled in two weeks. He is on his way.......

Hi all, I am late to the party. I have been reading everyone's posts but not much has been happening with me.

It's midterm season! I had one today, I have an assignment due tomorrow, another midterm on friday, and my final one on saturday. Unfortunately I also have one on the 22nd, my 20th birthday! Of course it's right through dinner, so I won't be able to do anything. By the time I get home and get Benson out for a walk it will likely be 9:30....which is a normal time for people to get out to the bars, but that's not my thing! I'd rather be in bed at 9:30.

We are still having trouble with Benson's ears. The vet told me to up the dose on his Burrows Solution. If that didn't work then we would look at changing his diet because it is most likely due to allergies.

I asked her what the difference between the Burrows Solution and just normal ear cleaning products is, she said the solution has steroids in it so it's stronger. She also said Benson might be one of those dogs that just needs to have maintenance treatments biweekly for the rest of his life.

This worried me a bit because I don't like when I hear "rest of life" and "steroids" together. Anyone know of any long term effects this could have on him? It is not an oral medication, just a few drops in his ears...but still.

Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well. Richard, I hate to bring this up again but I do want to say I am sorry for the loss of Maggie. I hope I haven't upset you by reminding you.

I will most likely not resurface until next week, but do let me know what you all think of the steroid situation. :)

Jayme just a thought, have you added coconut oil to Bensons diet? If not, you might want to consider it. There have been some amazing results with it, a friend of mine started her dogs on it over a month ago. I saw her Saturday and she told me the results have been dramatic. While it may not be the solution to the ear problem, it's worth a try.

Here is some info: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/th ... conut-oil/

Good luck on the exams!

Thanks for the condolences Jayne.I have had many great dogs, each with their own unique personalitys, over the years...Maggie is the last..Since I am "heading for the last roundup"myself I do not have the time the or energy to commit to another dog (as much as I do love the critters)...the DP and visits to the dogpark will have to suffice.Seems like everyone brings their dogs downtown on Saturday in our small village and I get to hand out cookies.

Kian, good idea on the coconut oil,it has many benefits and can do no harm that I know of...We were allways after anything that would improve the coat..Have you ever tried Super 14,(a horse supplement) ...good for coat condition.

Thanks Kian! I will keep an eye out for it. He is on Salmon oil, but I don't give it to him that often, just when I remember.

The vet took a sample and said that it was yeast in his ears, and according to that article coconut oil can treat that. We will definitely give it a try!
