Good Morning DP!! :D

Hope everyone is staying warm. We have a cold front that has just settled in for the next week. It's only 30 degrees outside!!

Janis, so glad Luna was okay. I hate snakes!!! It must be great to watch Divali run and enjoy it so much :D

Not much going on here. Thinking about those on the East coast that are having to deal with Hurricane Sandy  I certainly DO NOT miss having to deal with hurricane season...that is something i always dreaded living in SoFla.

Officially, we have now tried EVERY chewey known to man for Waffles. All he wants to do is destroy them! And he does. I can't let him play with anything unsupervised because i don't want anything getting stuck in his stomach. :( The only thing i find that i can give him are Bully Sticks and they are so hard to find around here. On another note, he and Persie are becoming friends. But he can't keep his nose off of Persie's "package" Ahem. Obviously, he needs to be neutered but we are still working on trust...cats take MUCH longer than dogs to earn their trust. I still can't get him to stay in the house with the door closed. It will happen...in HIS time.

I took some pics of the leaves on my street. And some of Persie hanging out with his chicken friends....i will post them in "Nezza's Life" for anyone who wants to see....

Deb is not far from me so we are both going to get hit with some of the remnants of the hurricane. They're calling for up to 100mm of rain and heavy winds (apparently up to 100km/h, but they always overestimate that one...). I am not too worried as I think myself a weather expert having taken one meteorology course  The media always exaggerates things to get a reaction out of people. We aren't taking any special precautions, I might turn the heat up a bit though before tonight in case the power goes out. We are expecting the worst of it tonight and then the system will continue into wednesday but shouldn't be as bad. It will definitely be raining for a few more days though.

Stay safe everyone!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!!!

Hurricane Sandy sure has made a mess of things. New Jersey took a direct hit, and that is where ALL of my VERY large family is. A lot of damage structurally and flooding, but everyone is ok. I also have family in PA, things are a mess there, too. Hurricanes are no joke. I have lived through Hurricane Andrew and it is terrifying. Anyone who tries to downplay a hurricane is ignorant in my book. Always be prepared for the worst. You have more to loose when you're not prepared.

Anyway, the winds from this hurricane are even reaching us all the way in Tennessee  But, today, the OH is smoking 3 racks of ribs, making homemade potato salad and cole slaw and a blueberry pie for us and our dear friends down the street. This is the couple that watches after our animals when we are on vacation and we always do favors for each other. Will surely miss the heck out of them when we move. Today, is a day for eating, good friends, drinking, and fun :D I couldn't be happier. I'm so blessed to have the life i have!!!

Nezza,
I certainly wasn't downplaying the hurricane. I was merely speaking of where I am. 8 hours from New York and we got nothing but a bit of wind. The news was saying we would be getting strong winds which we did not get.

The damage where the actual Hurricane hit was much much worse as I am aware.

Again, I was merely speaking for my area.

Jayme, i have no "ill will" toward you. That statement was not made toward you. It was a generalization. So many people downplayed Andrew and they payed the price for it.... People didn't take the warnings seriously...

Just like in this current storm....there are hundreds of people now stuck in their flooded homes along the Jersey Shore because they refused to evacuate....like they were told to do.

I was merely stating my stance on the subject......

Glad that you are safe.

It is my prayer that everyone in the path of the hurricane will be safe. Property can be replaced but lives cant. This mega storm has so far been quite predictable and I hope that those in the path have taken proper precautions and evacuated, if possible, or been prepared.
Vanessa, your dinner sounds heavenly. I love blueberry pie. It sounds like a lovely way to celebrate this introduction into Winter weather.
Just wanted to drop by and wish all my dear friends at DP a very happy and safe Halloween.

I shutter to think what the death and injury toll would have been without our warning system. It will take awhile to recover, so much damage. I can't imagine what it would be like to experience one, Nezza did you stay or evacuate? I just shake my head at those ill prepared and did not heed the evac warnings. Hurricanes are not to be challenged!

Nezza your dinner sounds so good!

I was in charge of our church halloween party, it went surprisely well! I'm just glad it is over. We are back to warm Fall weather, I love it. I have put up the storm plastic on the bay windows, time to re-wrap pipes while the weather is perfect. I will get up the Christmas lights in the next couple of weeks, yes I do it early. I prefer to do it while the weather is nice, hard to believe it is that time of year.

I met idiot of all idiots today! I was running out the door from work to get to the church and noticed a lady with a Papillion, I said "Hi cutie" as I walked by. She quickly handed the dog to me and said "please hold him". I declined, I did not have time...red flag in mind went up and I stopped and asked..."Why" Her answer "he growled at you and you need to hold him"...UH! I told her a growl is a clear warning and a prelude to bite, why would I want to hold your dog? To make him stop....UH! I told her never to do that, he just might actually bite someone and that is a huge liability. I went to tell her I was a Trainer and Behaviourst with 25 years experience. To which she replied...(are you ready).....I'm one to!
UH!!! What school of dog training did you attend anyway lady? Wish I would have had more time to show her how stupid her reasoning her was!

Kian, i am originally born in New Jersey, and spent every summer until i was 10 on the Jersey Shore...Seaside Heights to be exact. That shore holds so many memories for me. I started crying when i saw the devastation on t.v. It's all gone. The "Shore" as i knew it...is gone....forever. Every summer, my mom and sister, aunt (my mom's sister) and 3 cousins would rent a beach house for the summer and spend our days on the beach and strolling the boardwalk. Our dads would come down on the weekends, when they weren't working. Those are some of my best memories. And now it's all gone.  They will rebuild, i'm sure, but it's going to take a long time....there is so much devastation throughout NY and NJ. You are right, hurricanes are NOT to be challenged....people have warning, but so many don't take the advice, and those people are stuck now in their flooded homes....and rescuers have to go in and get them...and that's not fair to the rescuers who have their own families and houses to worry about. STUPID. in one word...STUPID!!!!! I have been through A LOT of hurricanes. You asked is i was evacuated in Andrew...we were not....we were just outside the EVAC zone. I have to say, looking at the pictures and watching the news...i think this storm was worse than Andrew or Katrina!!!

HOWEVER, for every hurricane, we were always prepared. We were without power, water for a while, but we heeded warning and we were prepared. That's really all you can do. I don't ever wish anyone to go through a hurricane...it's very scary. The sound is like a freight train running through your house and you can hear walls creaking, trees breaking, electric transformers popping....it's like a movie, only it's real.

Um...sorry to go off so long on that tangent...but it hits very close to home and i have been feeling so tore up about it....

Kian, dinner was AMAZING!!! You better make it here to TN one day!!!! Out of 3 slabs of ribs, there was a tiny bit left after dinner...we ate em all up! There is nothing left of anything!!! We are so sad to leave these friends, but, we just can't stay here for two people...and they love to go to Pigeon Forge, so, we know they will be visiting often :D

That lady at the church could NOT be a trainer. No trainer would ever suggest such a thing!!! What stupidity!!!! It's amazing the stupidity you encounter every day.

Nezza that idiot was a lady just in town. On the upside....the party was a huge success! I hope I don't have to be in charge again next year.

I just can't imagine the sadness at seeing so much destruction. The images of the Roller Coaster in the sea and Ferris Wheel on it's side are just sad. Homes pushed into the marsh sure shows the power of these storms. I just hope another one like this doesn't show up anytime soon or ever. I shutter to think if the Gulf gets a storm like this one, anywhere for that matter.

The freight train noise describes alot with mother nature. Earthquakes have a underground rumble which sound like that, Tornados do to and I don't even want to imagine what that would sound like with a Hurricane.

You were smart to be prepared, I just can't believe how many people don't or wait till the last minute and then items are gone. We have been told by Red Cross, EMS and so forth....be prepared. I personally have supplies on hand, that came in handy several times during Earthquakes where we lost power. Being prepared got us through a huge blizzard when the power went out the roads not driveable, and no heat.

Good morning, everyone!!

Hello, Sher! Yes, dinner went very well and was super delicious :D Hope you had a safe and happy Halloween. We never get "trick or treaters" just because of how our house/property sits...not easy access. I used to LOVE trick or treating when i was young, with my sister and cousins. It was different back then, though...oh, now i'm getting nostalgic

Kian, glad to hear the party was a success :D

I can't even bear to watch the news anymore...it's all just so sad. What a terrible storm  So many people lost their homes.
I have never been through an earthquake, that must be very scary....to feel your house and the ground shaking  Like you, we have a stock pile of emergency goods...the OH is very big on being prepared for anything.

Persie and Waffles have become quite good friends, happily :D Although, i think Persie may have gotten into a cat fight with one of his brothers from across the street. I was holding him this morning and noticed some sort of wound on his back thigh. He let me hold him long enough to clean it, doesn't seem to hurt him, and dress it with some antibiotic ointment. I will have to keep an eye on it.

Nezza your OH is very wise! When the blizzard of the century was predicted, I filled up with gas and took inventory of supplies. It was predicted that roads and highways would be closed for days not allowing the stores to stock up. The community heeded the warning and all was well.

So glad Persie and Waffles have become friends, peace in the house is always nice!

The Aussiex I have been working with at the jail has a home. I found a nice family looking for a Aussie or mix and they went to meet her. She has a home as soon as I can get her graduated! On the sad side, I have a rather large young man who hired me to train his two yorkies. He got these puppies at 2 weeks, not knowing. The lady said the mother had died and well.... This young man and his family are from Palestine, Israel and first time owning a dog. These little pups are 12 weeks old now, growth is stunted and I'm convinced thier brain is as well. These pups are teeny, tiny and scared of the world. The young man hovers over them, I told him to stop doing that as he looks like a shark trying to eat them. If this doesn't work, I'm asking him if I can take the pups and find him new ones. My friend who rescues puppy mills dogs said she would take them, she is a pro at taking these scared pups.

I set them up on a program to make them less fearful of humans, I told this young mans dad he would need to involved. I knew he wouldn't like it having a woman telling him what to do. I walked over, shook his hand and looked at him straight in the eye. He agreed to help! Don't mess with a fiesty American woman!

Man, my house is absolute chaos tonight.

I am puppysitting a neighbour's dog. She's insane. I tried to walk her with Benson but she wouldn't leave him alone and I could tell he was getting tired of it, so I walked reese around the block first then put her inside with my roommates and brought benson out. We went for a shorter walk and I was gone no longer than 25 minutes. I come back to find that they had let the puppy run free in the house with no leash. She has never seen cats before and I introduced them to her but made sure she was leashed when I was in the house. Anyways, apparently they were letting her CHASE the cats, and then one of them got extremely scared and angry and climbed my roommates blinds which are apparently now ripped. The way they were talking about it made it seem like they thought it was my fault! Maybe it is my fault for thinking they were competent enough to watch a puppy for 25 minutes. So now my one cat is extremely angry and has had his ears back for twenty minutes, and Reese won't calm down! She's been playing non stop for like two hours and she won't go to sleep! I might have to bring her back to my neighbor's house to go in her crate until I take her outside before bed.

Oh my Jayme! What chaos to come home to. It must be around 11pm there, I know that is early for college students but just thinking about it makes me tired! No it's not your fault, your roommates were irresponsible. Hope Reese settles down soon for you. What kind of puppy is Reese?

Hope your kitty quiets down, poor baby.

Good Sunday Morning, DP gang :D

Well, we had GORGEOUS weather yesterday. It was like 76 and bright sun...we had the doors and windows open...we made sure to thoroughly enjoy it, because it is quite possibly the last of the nicest days before winter. :D

Kian, i am so happy that Persie and Waffles have become such buddies...it DOES make everything so much easier.

So glad you found a home for the Aussie/mix. As for those poor little Yorkies...what a sad story. Those pups missed out on so much by being taken away at 2 WEEKS  The best home for them is going to be with your friend, like you said. They need a special kind of home...not the average dog home.

Well, been trying to update my exercise program. I usually exercise about 4 times a week...but lately, i just don't feel like doing it at all. I feel so good when i do...but, i would really rather just not do it! Am i just being lazy? I need some motivation, i think. I'm pretty sure i'm lacking it because i'm so complacent with my life....(sigh).

Jayme, you're not the one to blame for someone else's irresponsibility. I feel bad for your poor kitty. The roommates blinds...no, not so much...that was their own fault.

Nezza, I understand about the working out thing! I find when I get bored it's because I've been doing the same thing. Switch up your routine! Add bands, plyometrics (watch those knees), maybe a new playlist! And don't feel bad if you cut it down to two or three days a week. Right now because of school and work I can usually only make it to the gym twice a week.

I've just gotten up with the dogs (I'm not usually up at 7:30 on a sunday unless I have to work). I gave reese some food in case she was hungry, but she doesn't seem interested in it at all. Poor Benson doesn't understand why he can't eat the food in his dish! I keep catching him sneaking little bites and have to say "Leave it!" again. I ended up dragging reese's crate from my neighbour's house to mine so she could settle down. She cried for a long time the first time I put her in it. I gave in and took her for a pee so I could KNOW she didn't have to pee if she cried again. Plopped her back in the crate and she cried for about twenty minutes before falling asleep. I let her out so she could have a bedtime play with Benson, then back in the crate she went. She only cried for a minute or two then. Man, does this dog ever snore. I had to put my earplugs in and cover my head in a pillow to fall asleep. haha.

Kian, she is a mix, my neighbour just got her from their cottage neighbour. I think she might have some boxer in her, but I'm not very good at the breed guessing game! I'll post a photo so you guys can see her.

She really is quite cute, just a bit of a handful! She does that excited peeing thing so I've been trying hard to not get her excited.
