Bailey is 2 years old and the rescue told us he was a beagle/labrador mix, however we're pretty sure he also has border collie or something similar in him. His coloring is actually very similar to that of a yellow border collie and his tail looks closer to a BC's than that of a beagle's or a labrador's. He also shows some herding instinct. The beagle nose is definitely very prominent as it is constantly on the ground whenever he is walking around. When we first went to see Bailey at the rescue after he was pulled out of a shelter he was timid but also very sweet and loving. In the last two years he has made an amazing amount of progress and turned into a confident, happy-go-lucky dog!
When Bailey was a year old he started agility classes and it has done wonders for his confidence. Now every time we show up to an agility course he struts around like he owns the place even though he is still in the learning phase. Bailey has also started training in flyball which has managed to boost his confidence even more. Bailey also makes an excellent running and mountain biking partner. He always wants to be right by my side and is almost impossible to wear out. Even on the really long rides I seem to tire out well before he does. His favorite activity though is chasing squirrels. I am still trying to figure out how I can translate that "squirrel speed" to flyball. He still runs very fast during training but not nearly as fast as I have seen him when he is on the tail of a squirrel. It just goes to show that even a dog who was very scared of everything at such a young age can grow up to be such a wonderful companion who lives such a happy life!
