Kian, dinner is dinner I guess. There are just some things that are hard wired in animals that is very difficult to change. Tracy's example of having a Pom with a Deerie was a good one as well (in another thread).

Your OH is very knowledgeable. There are a lot of benefits to raising your own chickens I've heard.

You know, in all honesty, I never thought I would like having chickens, but after getting a few (especially raising your own chicks), I found them a special place in my heart. They are seriously the most fun thing ever - I really can't believe it. They all have a unique personality and they are also very smart despite the whole "bird brain" notion.



Might I also add that there is quite the difference between store bought and fresh eggs. I will never get store bought eggs ever again...

OMG!

Let me say my dog is a real saint PERIOD! She scored some extra bonus points today. I was outside feeding my chickens slices of bread as a treat and all of a sudden, My brown hens scream in alarm and dart into the tomato plants near my house, I look up and see a hawk, full throttling it towards my gray hen who was digging in the dirt a few yards away from me. This hawk got so close to her, had his legs out stretched ready to grab her. I spring up and start yelling "No! No! No!" at it and waving my arms hoping to distract it, to no effect. All of a sudden, Sabina flies at the hawk, jumps up into the air at it, all four of her feet off the ground, and just barely misses it with her teeth. She then proceeded to patrol around the house to make sure it flew off our property.


Sabina, the dog who I complained could never do anything right, is turning out to be something. I am so proud and thankful to have her in my family. She really is some dog!

Tears welled up in my eyes when I read about Sabina saving the hen because I remember your earlier "venting" posts -- and now she's done a really wonderful thing and made you so proud. I'm so happy for you both.

I have to add that the pictures of Sabina with the chickens are delightful. What a dog!
