Hi my name is Morgan!

Postby Morgansma on Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:04 pm

Hello,
My name is Morgan and i'm a 5 week old Australian Shepherd, and we think Beagle mix!
I came home with my mama (JoAnne) 2 days ago and we have been having lots of fun so far. She bought me lots of new toys and takes me outside all the time! I think I like it here and think I might keep her as my mama! :P

We are really glad we found this site its seems to be helping mama out on a few things she's not sure of!
Like I keep trying to tell her its ok to let me chew on her favorite shoes, but for some reason she doesn't understand or believe me!

Thanks for having us!

Aw Morgan she won't let you chew on her shoes, what's up with that? :? Welcome to DP, Morgan is cute. I have to ask, why 5 weeks did you get her? Was the mom Australian Shepherd but not sure of the dad? I don't really see Beagle, but she is quite young still. We have "a merle and me" and "lori and Nylah" both Aussie/Beagle mixes, check out thier profiles.

Enjoy her, she will be fun, active and a joy to be with. Where in this world are you? I am in the Western U.S. and own two Aussies.

Welcome!

Hello and thank you for the welcome!

Morgan is taking his first of many morning nap, but i'm sure he would say hello!

Me and my boyfriend live in Michigan! We live on 3 or 4 acres with his parents who got one of Morgan's brothers (Azeroth, Azzy for short) the same day we got Morgan! So he has a friend to play with! And i'm sure is going to be a reason for me to ask lots of questions!

Our neighbor has Morgan's mom who had 5 puppies, 4 boys and a girl. Mom is the australian shepherd she looks a lot like Allie  except all reddish and is kept outside all the time. And the dad we think is a stray dog who was hanging around a few times over the summer but we aren't positive. All of the puppies have some of his coloring and markings, and hopefully if he is the dad some of his personality. And we think he was beagle and maybe some kind of terrier mixed, maybe?

The reason we have him at 5 weeks is because the neighbor said they were ready to leave mom, she kept pushing them away and didn't want anything to do with them. Sadly, I think a lot of the reasoning was the puppies was eating all mom's food and he didn't want to buy puppy food! And I would rather take him now rather then him suffer eating adult dog food and not getting the love he should be for the next few weeks.

Keeping in mind when I say this, i'm 37 and never had a puppy as an adult so i'm probably messing it all up! :( I have read over so many different websites about puppies I think my brain is turning to mush! BUT, that is how I found this site, and so far am glad :D

Morgan is doing really well so far, was going to the door and whining the first full day we had him in the house, and has only had one accident so far!

I hope your neighbor has the female spayed, she shouldn't have pups which that horrible attitude. Good for you for taking one and for your parents doing the same. Would love to see a pic of the brother to.

We have another Michigan or two here  This is a wonderful site for information, we are very experienced dog owners, trainers, breeders and behaviourists. Alot of good resource here and it's common for us to come up with a solution together and share new ideas. We are all learning regardless of experience, so we have fun.

The main issue you are going to find at such a young age is socialization and nipping issues, these are would normally be addressed by littermates so it is great you have the brother nearby.

FYI: Most of us use photobucket to post pics, it's free and you can resize if you need to. Use the IMG code to copy and paste. We have lots of pics throughout this site, we just love pictures.

Join us often, we love to meet newbies!

Oh, goodness...Morgan is adorable!!! Welcome to the Daily Puppy! As Kian said, there is a wealth of knowledge here and everyone is happy to share information and offer advice.

Congrats on your new puppy. And thank you for taking her in...she will be very well loved and cared for, as opposed to where she started.

Aww. Morgan is such a cutie!! Welcome, from Sniffers and his mom in America's Dairyland!

Sniffers is my very first dog and I, too, struggled at first (the peeing and nipping). I found this site just like you and it is truly a godsend!

I second that. My mother had a puppy here and there as I was growing up... Nena is my first as an adult on my own (stationed over seas).

Welcome to the site! You will really enjoy talking to the folks here. You will find that you check this site 3 to 4 times a day lol

The knowledge here is amazing and has greatly helped me learn my way with Nena. It will be challenging, but fun all the way.

Post pics as you'd like... Morgan is adorable! That white stripe on his head is awesome! Enjoy!

Welcome, Morgan!! As Kian said, I have Diesel (a 1-year-old Australian Shepherd and Beagle cross - mom was the Beagle and daddy was the Aussie). Here are some pictures to give you some comparison!

When Diesel was around 10-weeks-old.
Image

"Comet" (Diesel's dad) on the left and Diesel on the right --- see the resemblance? :)

Diesel is everything and more I could have asked for in a dog (we train and compete in agility, flyball, disc dog, and herding) and I know Nylah ("Lori and Nylah") has been nothing but wonderful as well. So if Morgan is an Aussie/Beagle, I think that this is a fabulous cross! But whatever she is mixed with, Morgan is a very beautiful puppy and I'm sure she'll grow up to be a wonderful dog!

Ok so Kian asked for pictures of Azzy... I hate to say it being partial to Morgan, this is by far the cutest picture of the two I have taken! :D
Image

And another of Morgan ~ He's looking at me like "You KNOW i'm trying to sleep right!?!"
Image

They are both very smart... Azzy is VERY good at going to the door and whimpering when he needs to go out! And Morgan is already starting to know his name and occasionally will come when I say "Morgan, come" (Could be a fluke, but I just think he is smart)

Hi JoAnne, what adorable pups they are. At the moment their heads look too wide to be Aussie / Beagle but they change so much as they grow it is impossible to say. It is good that the puppies have each other to teach bite inhibition, hopefully that will lessen how much they nip you. Good luck with Morgan and feel free to ask questions as they come up.

Me, Morgan and Azzy feel loved already :D

I know someone had asked what the dad was and I had said I thought he was a beagle, but not really sure. Well, surprise surprise guess who came for his paternal rights today! So, I got some pics of him! I'll post them and maybe someone can shed any kind of light on what he might be! I have to tell you the first thing I thought of when he showed up was "OHHH I can get a pic of him now" LOL
"Dad's side view"

Us trying to get a face view of "dad" Morgan is standing next to him and he looks like the inside out version of him color wise!

I think as far as the nipping goes I'm going to have some issues with Morgan, he is already nipping at my feet and pant legs but I tried the distract him, and give him his own chew toy and that seemed to work good for the one time I needed to do it so far... Where as with Azzy MiL I think is going to have issues with him digging. But, it is still early and you never know! They could both be perfect angels right? :P

Morgan is a beautiful little boy! Welcome to the Daily Puppy JoAnne from Oliver & Henry, and their Mum, Deborah, who lives in London, Ontario (not too far from Michigan....1 hour from Port Huron).

I'm glad to see you're already in the swing of things with posting pictures, and good for you for capturing some of, whom you suspect to be, Dad! It will be fun to watch Morgan grow and develop.

Several of us brought home new puppies in the past year so regardless of experience, our memories have had a refresher course.

I do hope that the irresponsible owner of Morgan's Dam is spayed. What did the owners think would happen with an unspayed bitch that is tied up outside all the time?! Sheesh! How wonderful that your parents have Morgan's sibling, Azzy.

Good luck to you and welcome once again

Welcome Morgan and JoAnne, and of course Azzy! Beautiful pups, and I'm glad they both found homes with you and your family members. I'm so glad you were able to get a photo of who you think the dad is too! That could be something to look back at as Morgan grows!

Post as many pics as you want, like someone else said - we love pictures!
