Hello and welcome to DP, Tom. Deez is a beautiful Pittie. My experience with the breed is that most of them are big babies. I love them and they are so loving and sweethearts. Unfortunately many very good breeds get a bad reputation from having owners that are bad and the dogs are the ones who are hurt.

I agree with the others that you must surely have some fine parents, who I commend, for the son they have raised. You seem to be an extremely well mannered and polite young man and I am honored to have you join the forums.

I am Sher. from NC and I have 2 dogs. Prince, an almost 4 year old Cocker Spaniel and Coby, and 18 month old Chihuahua/terrier/alligator mix.
Again, a very warm welcome.

Sher, I always smile when you sneak the "alligator" mix in there with sweet Coby!

Hi Sher, thanks for the compliments... Deez is a big baby, and he's definitely part human! So if I must say, he's a Pitbull and human mix. :P

I told my mom what you all have been saying and she says, "if they only knew."

Thanks again for the welcome! And Lynners, thanks! Banning a certain kind of dog from an area is terrible. It's like banning Black's from a predominantly White neighborhood. :?

Tom, I agree with Lynners in that a Province wide ban on a certain breed is ridiculous, particularly in a Province as big as Ontario. It's a knee jerk reaction to bad ownership. Several Municipalities have managed to put laws in place to protect the public from these types of people. The wonderful thing about living in a democracy is the ability to vote and change the government.

I'm old enough to have seen these types of changes effected over time. There is someone in my area that I encounter often during my errands that has on his truck window "Stop Canine Profiling". The change will come, and hopefully (as with GSD's in the 60's and 70's, and Dobermans in the 80's) the right people will start having these dogs and training them properly so as not to give an entire breed a bad rap.

Until then, rather than complain about the laws, we need to work to educate people who wish to own this breed so that they are responsible stewards of the breed they love.

I totally understand Lynners frustration as she does tremendous work with rescues and the organization with which she is affiliated is not allowed to bring these dogs to Ontario to be rehomed. Five years is a long time from that perspective as there are so many that could have been saved from the US.

No current owner of a Pitbull has had their dog removed unless, of course, that dog has injured others.

Changes will come!

That's why I was most surprised! Banning a certain kind of dog from Ontario! Ontario is a very multifaceted place...

Deb, unfortunately, that's not true :(

I won't get in to it here, but it's quite the witchhunt...

Edit to add: I'm not meaning to become "super advocate", and I realize I'm starting to come across as quite the zealot. I merely wanted to inform Deez because I feel that all responsible pibble owners need to be aware of where there breed of choice is being demonized. It's easy to say "glad it's not happening to me" - and then be horrified when their city or state implements a ban. It's better to be prepared and aware of things affecting your breed so that you can educate and advocate before it actually does effect you.

**I'm sorry for my abissmal use of affect/effect. I never could get them straight!!

Sorry to draw so much from the topic. WELCOME (again)! I've seen you popping in to several other threads and can tell that we're going to enjoy having you around :)

Yep, I'm in WI. I grew up in Western NY south of Buffalo and we lived near Albany before we moved last year. I miss the NY...

Lynners, I wish that were true as I thought it was. You know I admire your never ending contribution to all living creatures, especially the dogs.

One of these days, you can enlighten me further. I should have prefaced my comment with "no dog that I have known has ever been removed....".

I'm sure Tom is happy to learn about things beyond his own backyard, especially as it relates to the breed he loves.

Nope, you read that I was supposed to go to South Carolina for Thanksgiving break! I am originally from South Carolina, but I've lived in New York since I was about a month old. I was born in Sumter, where are you in SC?
