Name advice for the new pup

Postby TrishaBebop on Sun Apr 24, 2011 6:29 pm

I know my mind could totally change the moment I see her when I pick her up but I'd like to have an idea of what I might name her
(She is also the runt of the litter-I always end up with the runts somehow! hehe)
I left a photo and a list of names that are a possibility, give me your opinion and tell me what you think :)

These names relate to wolf or night names
Aysel (Moon light)
Amaya (Night Rain)
Cheza
Lovell (little wolf)
Selene (moon goddess)
Sylvia (Forest)
Seija

What a cutie! You already have some great names to choose from. It's hard to pick, I like several of them.

What a darling. I think all the names you have selected are good ones. Since you are soliciting opinions, I think my choice for that lovely black ball of fluffy puppy should be Cheza.

It's unique and feminine. It's also a good "calling name" being two syllabels, and having a hard sound at the beginning and in the middle. I also like to try saying the name, along with my other dogs' names to see if they "match".

Whichever name you choose will be the right one! Congratulations on your impending new arrival.

I actually really like Cheza, it just sounds right. The name came from a lunar flower maiden from a show i used to watch when i was younger, all about wolves haha.
But who knows!

I am still up for more opinions!

I think it's harder for me to say because of the difference in accent, names sound different and sometimes are easier or harder to say depending on the accent

BUT

I vote Selene, it just sounds like the moon XD sort of quiet....maybe because it's similar to the word 'serene' lol

Oh and Aysel. I like them both the same. :) little pup is gorgeous! Lucky you

What a cute pup! My first thought when I saw her was Midnight and that fits in with your theme of names, but its not nearly as unique as what you have come up with. She's beautiful! Congrats!!

I like Selene but then I like all of them really. I like to go with unusual names too and like the idea of linking them to deities.

You could also have Cerridwen, the Welsh moon goddess, Diana the Greek moon goddess or Freya the Norse moon goddess.

How do you pronounce Cerridwen?

And Freya! Could you tell me more about her I REALLY like that name too and again as a child she was a character in a story that I loved

Cerridwen is pronounced "Kerrid when" and can be spelt with one "r" or two. Ceridwen was an enchantress, mother of Morfran and Creirwy. Welsh poetry and folklore refers to her possessing the cauldron of Poetic Inspiration (Awen). There is also a tale which tells of her swallowing her servant Gwion Bach. He is then reborn through her as the poet Taliesin. She is a monn goddess and also the goddess of rebirth and inspiration.

There is a huge amount of information concerning Freya as she is one of the major deities in Norse mythology, often referred to as Odin's lover. She is multifaceted being the goddess of love, fertility and beauty but also a warrior goddess and leader of the Valkyries. She was immensely powerful and lay claim to half the souls of the bravest soldiers to die in battle.
