I'm Douglas' human!

Postby kurimusoda on Sat Apr 14, 2012 8:06 pm

My name is Kathryn. Our family consists of two humans (Kathryn and Max), a kitty (Mimi), a dwarf bunny (Momo), and the newest addition to our family--Douglas! We usually only call him Douglas when he's in trouble; otherwise he's known as Duggie, DugDug, Duglet, or ClumpyClump.

Duggie is a very smart boy. He's learning very quickly to potty outside--and we're still in the process of teaching him to ring a "potty bell" that's hung by the door. We also have been crate training him. He still whimpers sometimes when he misses us, but he enjoys being distracted by his peanut butter and kibble filled Kong toy.

I have been a long-time viewer of Daily Puppy, but I am a first time human to a dog! My boyfriend, however, has been human to many dogs.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome Kathryn !
My name is Catherine too, just spelled differently. :D

Congrats, on your new addition to the pack, you seem to be raising and training him just right. Also, Your boy Duggie is so cute and I just love his name! It reminds me of Doug from the movie UP. I bet he is just as adorable and smart as Doug as well. Although, I do envy the fact that you have Bunny they are so fluffy!

Also, this site has many people with tons of knowledge that they are willing so share and tons of cute puppies too. If you Have any Questions feel free to ask. The many Dog-Lovers on this site will be Glad to help you. Example: me. Although, i am younger, I will try to contribute. Rest assured you will meet many new people on this site that might even become your friend.

Again, welcome to the Dailypuppy from the three of us and i Hope to see more of Douglas soon. It is nice meeting you and Btw we are located in California. :)

Welcome Kathryn and Douglas! He is a cutie for sure. We certainly are a group of dog lovers and animal lovers in general. Any questions, feel free to ask, lots of experience here. I love Kong & highly endorse it for all puppies. I'll give you another suggestion if you don't mind, after you plug up the small hole with peanut butter, fill the second layer with chicken broth and if there is room crunch a small treat in there or a baby carrot, top it off with a Ice cube with some PB on it and set it up in the freezer. It won't take long to freeze and accomplishes two things, the rubber is the chewing and the frozen food soothes during teething. I always have 2 with my puppies, one for night and one for the day.

I'm Kian, I resided in the Southwest U.S. with my two Aussies and a few farm critters. Welcome!!

Thanks Catherine and Kian for welcoming me!

We actually named him on the way to go pick him up. While driving, we passed many Douglas Fir trees--and decided to name him Douglas! However, his nicknames are Dug (like Dug from Pixar's Up), DugDug, Duglet, and Duggie. He's still getting used to his sister bunny :)

Thanks Kian for the suggestion. We did get Duggie two Kong toys, tried mixing his kibble with peanut butter and freezing one, but he doesn't seem to know how to get it out of the Kong. I will definitely try your suggestion though!

Hi Kathryn and Douglas! What an adorable baby boy. As you can already tell, you are surrounded by like minded people here, and not our only "bunny" human either!

Welcome to the Daily Puppy from Oliver & Henry (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) and their Mum, Deborah, in London, Ontario, Canada.

Thanks Deborah!

We've introduced him to both kitty and bunny, but since he's still in that chewing/biting phase, we're hesitant to let them play together. Hopefully he learns no biting soon!

Congratulations on being our Puppy of the Day!!!! :D 8) :D 8) :D 8) :D 8)

I recognized "Duglet" immediately, and he's a huge hit! All puppies bite a bit, especially while they're teething. Henry was real "nipper" when he first came home, but after a couple of weeks, he learned to stop biting our faces. To this day, he still gives us "face nudges" as an expression of affection.

Dug is so sweet that I'm sure he'll pick up on how much those needle puppy teeth really hurt in no time.

Thanks Deborah! :D We were very excited as well. Duggie was excited too--he didn't know what all the commotion was about, but he loved the excitement anyways!

Thanks for the support! He's also passed that two week mark, but we got Douglas at 6.5 weeks. He's 8 weeks now so I'm guessing it's going to be another couple of weeks before he focuses more on his toys rather than our hands/faces/clothes. We've been training him with treats: we hold a treat in our hand and let him sniff it, say "easy" until he calms down and can take it from us nicely--without nipping.

You are exactly correct as pups generally learn bite inhibition during those crucial 4 to 8 weeks with Mum and siblings. Since you've had Duggie from 6.5 weeks, you're correct in thinking that he will be at least 10 weeks until he grasps the concept.

He is such an adorable fellow!
