Snoops gets a puppy! Say hi to Iolo!

Postby snoopygirl on Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:45 pm

I commented in Misc Idle Chit Chat about this, but here is the proper introduction!

I know I haven't been around the site for a long time but I thought it was definitely time to pop back in to tell you guys that my family has finally got a puppy! Like I said, it's at my dad's house, which is where I live only partially, but it's still a huge deal for me and the most exciting thing that has happened to me in a long time

His name is Iolo (pronounced Yollow, like follow), and we only just picked him up yesterday. He is an 8-week-old German Wirehaired Pointer, though he is very smooth-haired for his breed, especially in comparison to his brother and sister who were a lot wirier and hairier already when we saw them - but his beard will come in time! :P (Apparently he is 1/8 Labrador on his mother's side.)

To be honest he has been an angel so far compared to what he could have been. He is the most sweet-tempered and lovely thing, so very, very chilled out about everything. Nothing has fazed him - meeting strangers, being surrounded by children, being touched and played with constantly. The car ride home from the breeder was almost 2 hours long and he barely complained. He whined a little bit as he sat on my stepmum's lap but most of the time was content to look out of the window and then he just curled up and went to sleep. He already seems well on the way with house-training, and has had only one or two accidents and mostly chooses of his own accord to go outside in to the garden. Though I wasn't at my dad's for his first night, apparently he had almost no problems, he slept alone in his crate (his first time sleeping alone), woke up once in the night to go outside, and then got up very early in the morning. He is a little rambunctious as can be expected from a puppy, but he doesn't jump up quite as badly I don't think as his brother and sister did. He is a little overwhelming for my 4-year-old sister sometimes when he bounds towards her and tries to play - as he is a big fella for his age, with great big paws - and of course he wants to chew everything, including her clothing! That's probably what's going to take the most work with him as he's very inquisitive and he'll get into anything he can find, but thankfully he has taken kindly to his squeaky toy pig, his chew rope, and other toys! I practised teaching him to sit for a while when I was visiting him, too, and he completely melted my heart when he just came over to me, collapsed in my lap and fell asleep. To get him used to sleeping in his bed alone instead of on someone's lap, while he was sleeping on my crossed legs I shuffled my way inch by inch towards his crate and then slowly moved him in there without waking him, and since then he has decided it is quite an adequate bed!

Sorry I'm talking so much about him but I am naturally so excited and he is just so gorgeous, I absolutely love him to pieces! I am looking forward to the rest of the puppy adventures we'll surely have with him! I am besotted

Wow Snoops. A huge congratulations to you. I know how long you have waited for a dog. I'm not surprised you're a little bit excited. He's a cutie too. Great to hear from you. Now you won't be back for ages because you'll be too busy with your puppy and rightly so. :D

WELCOME IOLO AND CONGRATULATIONS SNOOPS!!!

I was SO excited when I saw you had posted, especially in the Intro thread and I even said to Elliot "oh I hope she finally has her puppy".....AND YOU DO!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

By the way, before I gush endlessly about Iolo, I must say how beautiful you look in your new avatar photo. My goodness angel, you have grown up SO much. Elliot will kill me for saying this, but he also thought you looked rather smashing. He remembers you of course, and he's 16 now.

Now on to Iolo...first of all, I love the name, and thanks for the pronunciation guide. You'll have to tell us more about what the name means and from where it comes. He is such a gorgeous, gorgeous boy! No wonder you are besotted. I am besotted. What a darling puppy!

I always start with the Intro thread when I come on the Forums, so I have yet to read your post in Misc. I have a million questions for you about life, but I'll wait until after I read that post.

I am so chuffed that you finally have YOUR puppy. It's time, and you've more than earned it. I know you aren't always at your Dad's, but from the bit I've read so far, it sounds like you are there more often than you were several years ago. Were your ears burning in June? I was in British Columbia visiting Phyrie and we were talking about you, in a very complimentary way and saying how much we miss you, and what a lovely young lady you are. It's hard to believe that you were 14 when we first started chatting, and now you must be 18 at least. There is a big difference in those four years!

You have been greatly missed, and I honestly can't express how happy I am to see this post. You've made my week, my month really!!!!

Iolo has lovely markings on his paws, and such a sweet face. I could picture you inching, inching, inching you way across the floor so as to no disturb him and put him in his crate. I know you will be "his", and he will be "yours" and the bond will be very deep and strong. It is already.

I could gush forever about how happy I am for you, and to see you. Oliver is sending you an ear schnizzle, and "Hanky Panky" (Henry) is sending you kisses and cuddles, and I am sending along huge "welcome home" and "congratulations" hugs!!! 8)

Oh gosh Deb, how I love you! You're making me emotional!

That was so sweet of you and Phyrie, aww. I miss her too! I know I'm bound to be super busy but I'll try to come by here more often to let you know how I'm doing and how Iolo is doing, and to catch up with you all. You're honestly some of the nicest people I know! It's so touching that this post made you so happy :D

And haha, yes, I suppose I have grown up quite a lot! I am indeed 18 and the gap between 14 and 18 is huge, you're right. In fact, what's incredibly strange to me is that my younger sister is in fact 14 now, and she was 10 when I first met you guys! Which feels like an even bigger gap perhaps. Thank-you so, so much for your lovely compliments, and Elliot's too, you sweet things! I can't believe he even remembers my existence.

As for Iolo's name, it's a Welsh name which my dad and stepmum heard on TV - they watch a lot of nature TV and there's a wildlife presenter called Iolo Williams, and they decided it sounded like a good name for a dog! :D I think it quite suits the little guy. And yes, I love his little white front paws! They are the cutest. I visited him again today even though I'm not 'at my dad's' at the moment. There seemed to be a moment after he started to nonchalantly come towards us when he was like 'WAIT THIS IS THE GIRL FROM YESTERDAY' and then he dived and gave me a very enthusiastic wiggly greeting. It warmed my heart :)

It's great to hear from you too Tracy :) I'm sure you're right and I will be busy with all sorts but I'll try to make time to update you all 8) I'll write more about non-Iolo-type things in Chit Chat! :)

Snoops, if you dare, there is actually a thread in "Off Topic" that has several photos and even a video of my arrival when I went to visit Phyrie! It's good for a laugh, and I really should add more photos to it. I took over 198, not including those on my new phone, and only a smattering are posted. It gives one a good idea of just how beautiful it is where Phyrie lives, and how goofy we are! :P

Some people seem to be having trouble with your new puppy's name, as the font on the DP doesn't show it well. I am going to type it so everyone will know precisely what the name is:

I (Capital I, not a 1, not a small L, but an i, in CAPS) OLO!!! IOLO!!!!! Pronounced in North America as "Yallow" with the "I" being a "Y". Trust me, having an English Mother, I know how she says "follow" and how we say "follow"....it's a titch different.

Therein ends the lesson for today!  :?

I'm quite sure he is most happy to see you every single time he does. I just know you two are bonded. ♥

I should introduce you to "Nezza" aka Vanessa. She has been with us since last Fall, as is from Tennesse. Vanessa is a lovely addition to our "regulars". Vanessa, meet "Julia", our darling "Snoops"! :D

You must keep us updated on Iolo, especially as he grows. He is such a cutie. Of course, we also want to know all about what is happening in your world.

Haha, aw thank you Deb, that was considerate! :)

I didn't think about differences in pronunciation, hehe. I love accents.

And helloooo, it's very nice to meet you, Nezza! :D

OK, now you've got me confused! :D So is that first 'o' pronounced like the 'a' in hat (imagine that with a nice midwestern nasal :? ) or more the 'a' in awe? Vowel sounds are so different in English, it's hard to describe them in writing!

I was thinking: Eeee-YAW-low. :D :D :D (like Shakespeare's villain, iago--not capitalized for clarity!, but with L's)

BTW, Snoops, he is absolutely irresistible!!!

Haha, I expect in an american accent it would be 'Yaw-low' ;)

Thank-you, Phyrie!! So good to hear from you! :D I can't wait to go see Iolo again. And maybe get some better pics - he just rarely stops moving, hehe.
