Good morning to all! I am new to the forum only as a member. I read the threads daily.
I have loved dogs all my life and have been blessed with owning a few really good ones. The information on this site has been helpful to me with my currant dog, Pumpkin.
She is a 6 yr old red nosed APBT. What a lovely girl she is! We adopted her from a rescue in Oregon (where we live) 4 years ago. Her story thankfully wasn't too bad. She had got picked up for wandering the streets and her owner didn't want to pay the fine to take her home. She was in the pound for 5 months without anyone but the staff looking at her. Safe The Pets took her into a foster home and we found her online a month later.
She has been great for our family. There is me, my husband and my 2 boys plus a kitty.
She came with pretty good manners. No bathroom problems, no food aggression, no mouthing, no excessive barking. Has had some dog aggression if they were big dogs. But think that was lack of socializing when a pup. Since we have had her she has become much more mellow and even plays with strange dogs. As a pitbull we have been very careful to show others the true side of the breed and not the media's.
Since I am her "mom" I also have been her focus. She does have some seperation issues. We had to raise our fence twice so she'd stop jumping it looking for me!!
Thanks to your shared info I have been working on her leash walking. We have been having some success!!
Anyway, hope this works as an introduction.
