This is about a real Dog, and the story is that he was rehomed out of rescue.
Note this story has been posted with the owners permission.
An old dog is has been left tied up to a gate
Anxiously waiting on what will be his fate
His people have left him, they've been gone far too long
And he's left wondering what it was he did wrong
His coat is too long, the matting too dense
The world to him doesn't make any sense
His belly is empty, his joints give him pain
He looks at the sky, and its starting to rain
He waits for his friends, he thought that they cared
Why would they have left him, abandoned and scared
His eyes they are cloudy, he doesn't see much
He relies on his people for kindness and touch

They really aren't coming, he realises at last
The friends that he had they are all in the past
Strangers are passing, all going on their way
He knows now that he has had his last day
But here comes a person, gentle and slow
He waits for her to walk on past and go
She doesn't, she stays, she's quiet and kind
"Hello there old boy, what’s going on in your mind?"
"I don't care that you're slow, that your face is all grey
I really wouldn't have you any other way
I don't think you're naughty or boring or bad
I think you're a beautiful, gentle old lad"
"I will take you with me, to a place you can go
We'll take it real gently, we'll take it real slow
I will find you a home where you will bring joy
When you prick up your ears when you get a new toy"
"Your coat will be brushed, your belly be filled
I will make sure the pain in your joints will be stilled
There's no need to fear, no don’t look away
you come with me - this is NOT, your last day"

Grandad Ben did find a new home....................But so many older dogs do Not.
How could anyone not want this lovely old Gentleman
