Oh, RJM, I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful, beautiful boy and obviously very much loved by everyone who knew him. These are difficult days and you will be in my thoughts.

From the first moment I saw Morty, I knew he was my heart dog. He was only six weeks old and his amazing personality was already shining through. He was the only male in a litter of five. While all his sisters were being good little puppies, he went missing, we found him behind the sofa going potty...and so started my love affair with the little guy, I absolutely love naughty puppies...LOL! The two week wait to bring him home seemed like an eternity. The week before I was to pick him up, I found out that one of his sisters hadn't been spoken for, so I decided to take her too.

Morty and his sister Onyx were inseperable. Where one went, usually Onyx, Morty would follow. They even ran and wagged their tails in sync with each other. I loved Onyx very much, but Morty had a special place in my heart that no other dog before or since has occupied. He had a way of looking at me with so much love in his eyes that I would melt every single time. It was obvious, even to strangers, that he was MY dog and no others, we had such a special bond.

When Onyx passed two years ago, I thought it wouldn't be long before it was Morty's time, boy did he prove me wrong.
Then Joey was gone and Morty was still here. It was such a comfort to have him to snuggle with through the grief of both losses. Then after a tumble down the stairs a couple months back, he started to deteriorate pretty rapidly. I knew when he was ready to go, he told me with his eyes...they were still full of love, but also pain.

One of my had friends recently commented, "I think Morty's still here because he loves you so much he doesn't want to leave." It's a nice thought, but I loved him so much I had to let him go.

Those last two lines brought tears to my eyes. I'm sitting here sobbing like a baby now.

Theres not much to be said that hasn't been said already. My heart goes out to you.

And the tears continue, RM!! What a wonderful story! Morty has captured the hearts of a lot of people and we'll forever miss him, just as if he were ours. I've shared Morty with the OH and he was smitten with him too, and saddened by his passing. He will forever live on in your heart! ♥

Rox, Elliot was reading this thread with me and he said "we shouldn't grieve for Mort because he lived a long time and had such a great life. We should celebrate his life and be happy for him". He also said he knew how sad you must be as he knows how much you will miss him. Elliot was quite upset yesterday when I told him about Mort, but he's thought about it all and is trying to make sense of it.

Mort was a special wee fellow who absolutely adored you. I didn't realize until now that he was the only boy in his litter. No wonder he was such a special lover boy.

As Kwak said, Morty's fan club lives on and will forever be intact. That was a beautiful collage you made Kwak...just beautiful!

I've been thinking about you all day. My whole family has. You and Morty had an unspoken understanding that will exist forever. He was a cheeky one, relieving himself behind the couch. It's no wonder you fell in love. :D

Deb, Thank Elliot and your whole family for me.
Elliot is absolutely right, it makes it a little easier to bear, knowing he had a long and full life.

Roxy - what a great story about how Morty came to live with you. Naughty puppies are the best. Full of mischief and joy all in one :-) Made me cry again but laugh at the same time.

Morty will be missed but not forgotten.
