Oh how I miss my Rosie!

Postby Winnietheweiner on Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:37 am

I had to put down my dog Rosie. She was a Bichon Frise and was truly wonderful. My daughter and I were blessed to have her for 12 years. She was loyal and true. She died from heart disease. My profile picture is of my new pup Winnie.

Rosie passed away on August 5th 2011. She was the joy of my life. She was apricot/buff colored and small for her breed. She loved snuggling in the bed and would sleep with me or my daughter right up on the pillow and rested he head on our heads. She was quite standoff-ish when you first met her, but as she became familiar with you, she loved you and was so sweet. We called her "prune" or "pergie". She had some dog friends, one was Ginger, my sisters schnuazer. They went on family vacations together, and celebrated birthdays and parties with the family. A nice slice of braunschweiger with a candle in it was always a hit. Here she is with Ginger for New Years Eve.

Rosie loved a good cookie, and was especially fond of cheese. As she started getting sick, I would have to give her her medicine hidden in cheese. Her poor little tail started to get cracks in it, due to the heart disease. She started really loosing wieght, and suffered so much with breathing and coughing. For the last year, she wore diapers because of the lasik she had to take with her heart medicine, it made her go all the time. She didnt mind. She still loved me, and I still loved her. Her teeth began to fall out, and her bones became weak...she still loved me and I loved her. Her belly got big due to the enlarged heart, she still greeted me at the door, wagging her tail. Oh how I loved this dog. Towards the end, she was just coughing so much, and now was starting to show me that she was suffering.

My daughter and I went together to put her down. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done. They made us a paw print of her little paw, and cut a piece of her fur and tied it with a ribbon. We took her to my moms to bury her. My daughter held her the whole way there. We buried her in my mothers back yard. They have a beautful huge garden, with flowers, trees, paths. I made her a grave stone, and painted it by hand. We lined her grave with evergreens, flowers and read the rainbow bridge poem. There was such emptiness at home without her. My daughter slept with her collar and cried and cried. She was my daughters childhood dog and it really crushed her. I love you Rosie. You are a good pup and a true blue friend. Rest in peace. We will never forget you.[attachment=2]Rosebud.jpg

I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved Rosie. You have honoured her beautifully, and I'm sure in the coming years, you will find comfort in being able to go and visit with her in her final resting place.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for you, and your daughter. I know that Rosie was a beloved member of the family, and how much it hurts when they leave us. Hopefully Winnie has already started to help with the healing.

Thank you for sharing Rosie with us. My heart truly goes out to you, and I hope you can find peace and comfort in the coming days, weeks and months knowing you did all you could.

Most sincerely,
Deborah, Oliver & Henry's Mum

I am so sorry about your loss. Rosie seemed like such an amazing pooch. She is resting comfortably in a better place watching over you and your daughter. I had a similar experience with my Mom when we had to put our beloved Fairway down. She was a 16 year old Belgian Sheepdog and just an absolute sweetheart. My mom and I went together to put her down and held her paw as she went to sleep for the last time. It was so hard, but now we know she is watching down on us just as Rosie is doing the same.

Remember all the good times and put loving mementos around your house. Condolences for you and your daughter.
