Just read an awesome book called "the 5 love languages" by Gary Chapman. Really gives a lot of insight into relationships, it has really helped the OH and I ( he even read it and he is not a self help kind of guy)

Ooohhh, tell me more!

I'm reading "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Lama and somebody Cutler. I'm loving it. I haven't taken it all in though, because by the time I start reading, its usually when I've gone to bed and I'm already tired. I'm going to read it again as soon as I've finished.

I only really like two books.
Theories Of Relativity (not a science book :P )

and Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas. I've read this book 5 times and watched the movie about 7 times. Hehe.

My favourite book since I was a kid is Dusty by Frank Dalby Davison. It's about a kelpie x dingo who is torn between domestic and wild life. It's very hard to find in print but worth the effort if you can get it.
Coming in at 2 would be Man Shy by the same author, it's about a cow. And I love cows.
I read a lot, but mostly as an escape so if I remember a book it must really have made an impression on me.
Power of One is another good book, written by Bryce Courtney.
Gone with the wind.
Edgar Allen Poe can't be beaten for horror.

Favorite dog books, they are written by Albert Payson Terhune, he wrote many books about collies in the early 1920's. My favorites are "Lad a dog", "Bruce" "A dog named Chips" "Grey Dawn" and many many more, here is a link to his website which lists his books. Plus it is a site devoted to his fans and this incredible author who help give me the appreciation for dogs that I still have today. Many are still in print. The best dog books you and your kids will ever read, he wrote about his collies that shared his life at Sunnybank ( in New Jersey) I lived on these books reading them over and over again. Enjoy!

Charles Dickens is a GREAT author. I've read Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and I started Great Expectations, having "great expectations" on the matter, which didn't come to fruition... in other words I didn't finish it 8)
I think the best book I've read is To Kill a Mockingbird. That was one great book. Loved it.
Currently I'm reading the Invisable Man by H.G. Wells. I'm nearly done though. This winter I'm planning on reading Little Dorritt by Charles Dickens.

How very cultured Ash. I read Great Expectations when I was at school and quite enjoyed it but there was no question of not finishing it. I probably remember enjoying it because the other books we were reading at the time were Julius Caesar-Shakespeare and the poems of John Betjeman. Both of which I found a bit dull.
Do you only read classics? Do you not go in for mindless escapism?

LOL, uh, I dunno. I've read the Narnia books, the Secret Garden, Black Beauty, the Black Stallion, Redwall (all but two books, I think. Maybe three....) Little Women, etc. when I was younger. The Secret Garden now seems to be written too young for me, though I had started a tradition awhile ago of reading it before Christmas and getting to the part where Mary finds Colin right on Christmas Eve. Broke that tradition this year though, because as I said, it seemed young...

So, I guess I do mainly read the classics... hadn't really thought of it that way before.
Oh, but then again I did read Series of Unfortunate Events, the first Eragon book, and more I'm sure that I don't remember right now...

That is my favorite book of all time and the movie is just as good. Gregory Peck plays Atticus Finch, I own the movie and still watch it several times a year. It is one of my "feel good" movies.

Some really good books for your age are by an author named S.E. Hinton. ( a woman) she wrote 2 , one is called "The Outsiders" and the other is called "That was then, this is now"

Dickens is wonderful and I also loved ( at your age) "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger and "Walden Pond" by William Barksdale Maynard

I know I am probably making myself sound like a kid here, but I am absolutely in love with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga. They are absolutely, hands down the best books I have read. I have read them over and over again and can't get tired of them. The movie Twilight comes out on November 21 (in the US), but if any of you are going to see it, I strongly urge you to read the book first. There is no way possible the movie can match up to the book and although it will make for a dissappointing movie, you will get the full affects of Twilight by reading it. I don't think that you'll be sorry! :)

Gregory Peck was a brilliant actor. He was perfect as Atticus Finch, and was just as good with Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. He's one of my favorite actors...
We don't own the film... in fact we just watched it a little while ago after mom, brother and I all read the book...

The OH just bought me a great "coffee table book" it is called "Old Dogs Are The Best Dogs" beautiful photos of dogs over 10 years old and wonderful stories about each dog. I am very particular to Senior dogs, so this book is wonderful for anyone who holds a special place in their heart for the seniors!
