Philip,

Where do you get those crazy Animations you put in with your messages. They are hilarious.

Elizabeth, you are a sweetheart! No, he didn't actually take Oliver to the vet. He's an RT so he works in the Health Care field and is familiar with the parts! He made it so I didn't have to take Oliver to the vet :D

I too love the emoticons but my elder son is always advising me against downloading them due to potential viruses. I did mention to the DP Admin that we would enjoy having more emoticons from which to choose.

This has turned into a rather amusing thread that I have to "hide" from my OH! LOL! I enjoy being naughty and feel as if I am getting away with something.

Elizabeth, thanks again for the To Do and NOT To Do List ideas! I'll be sure to put emergency telephone numbers at the bottom.

Hi Deborah,

I've stayed out of this one because I think that if you were really worried, you would make arrangements for Oliver to be cared for elsewhere while you're away. Only a foolish person would leave a sick dog with an incompetent.
But I don't think you're an idiot, and I don't think that you would marry one either. "Helpless" men are common, and women have "cared" for them for ages. It's roles that we choose. My husband claims that he would starve to death if I left, but I have left (at least on holiday) for a month, more than once, and he's still here.
He may drink more beer than he would if I was home (cuz I wasn't there to drink my share), and eat more Shake'N'Bake chicken and canned corn (his specialty dinner) but he lives.
I can't imagine that you would be married to a man who wouldn't care for Oliver properly. It falls to you now, because he's your dog, but your husband will rise to the occasion when it's his turn. Really, he will.

Have a great vacation. If you really are concerned, you can ask a friend to "stop in for a visit" with Hubby and Oliver while you're gone. But I'm sure all will be well.

Have a great vacation!

Phyrie

Phyrie, it was more of a venting on my part than a genuine concern. Obviously I would not leave my dog, or my children, in the care ever of someone who was not capable. I was having a "moment".

I appreciate your post. That was very sweet of you.

Enjoy your vacation! I have 3 more weeks to go and then we're off

Deb, we all know you're not really concerned, just having a moment. Our OHs are great but they just don't do things the way we would.
Loki used to sleep in the kitchen until SS and I went on holiday for a week. When we came back Loki was sleeping on my side of the bed.

Well, I almost envy you guys in your happy companionships. But... I was a naive teenager when I married, had 3 kids in less than 5 years in my 20's, finally gave him his "pink slip" in my early 30's. I've always heard that when someone abuses animals, they often move on to bigger stuff. It's true. At one point he beat our baby Beagle so hard, she tried to attack him and was only 3 months when she did it. I was scared for her life. She hated him after that one. We sold her (complete with pedigree papers and stuff) and I was devastated, but also relieved for her. She would have had a miserable life the few times he would come home. I don't think Daddy Daycare would have helped, no matter how many times I would have enrolled him, and have chosen to remain single. That's partly why I love my dogs so much, Cheyenne and her predecessors, they give/gave me more companionship/support/love than I ever got from him.OK, now I've vented, back to dogs! After I was single again, I bought a tent trailer and took my widowed mom, kids and dog(s) and we would go camping, mountains, lakes, whatever, and had a lot of fun. (Mom's 94 now, and is starting to get tired, so has decided to move to a partial care place). So, have fun on your holidays, keep warm til you leave, and safe trips. Your OH's will be fine - they sound like great guys (even if they're relegated to the garage now and then  ) Phyrie, before you leave, make sure to stock up on SNAUSAGES!

Sandy, I'm sorry you went through that angel. I am lucky as my OH really is a good fellow, he just annoys me sometimes. Donna, I am going to take that nothing box, all wrapped up nicely with a great big bow!

Tracy, I am quite sure Oliver will be more spoiled than ever when I return. He already sleeps in the bed

I must say too though that this isn't about gender as I know a lot of women who are "clueless" sometimes, totally vacant.

I wish I could remember the context this happened in (talking of clueless) but yesterday we were getting in the car and I must have asked the OH something to which he answered "sorry, I was in my nothing box". He had been chuckling when I played the video, so I think that may become his stock answer for all situations.

Oh no...he has an "answer" now. I'm hiding this thread from my OH as it's sort of about him...yikes!

That was a great post Philip....very amusing and insightful all at the same time!

Thanks, Deborah. I did get the better end of the deal though - I got the kids, possession of the house (til they were all through school), and the dog. He got his girlfriend. Yes, we did get another dog but I trained her this time.

Yes there is truth in that. I swear that I do have a ball of wire in my head at times, can't sleep, can't concentrate, can't keep my mind on one thing?Image
