A little bit of England

Postby Deerie me on Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:22 am

SS and I recently went to Belton House. A stately home in Lincolnshire. I thought I'd put up a few pics as the grounds are beautiful. Taking photos inside the house isn't allowed but that was beautiful too.

It was fun trying to imagine what it would be like to live in that enormous house. It had a mourning room. A room only used if someone died. It was painted black originally. A room for every occassion.

The folly up on the hill belonged to the house and was used for picnics. Apparently the family would ride there in a carriage along that wide avenue of trees.

Beautiful!! My dad's taken me places like this often, but not in Lincolnshire! Near me, Cragside is lovely, as is Gibside. Looks like beautiful weather!

Thank youTracy, no regrets, I love to see the pictures of England. Always a dream to travel to far off places, but living on a milkman budget! :)

My husband said SS is very cute! I must agree...

What great opportunities you present to SS to learn and have fun at the same time. You're a great mom!!! The pictures are beautiful and interesting. I'd love to travel the world, starting with England, but a teacher's salary is somewhat similar to the "milkman" salary just mentioned! Still, someday I will get there. Thanks for sharing the photos!

Thanks Angie, that means a lot.

I think he's cute Kian but I'm slightly biased. He is in a show today. His stage school is performing "Little Shop of Horrors". He came home from rehearsals yesterday at 9pm and is performing today at 3pm and 6pm so he is going to be one very tired small son tonight. I spent Friday night creating his plant costume (Leaf shapes attached to a green t-shirt I bought from a charity shop). I think he will enjoy it. It has been a great boost to his confidence. I am determined he won't be as shy as I was as a child. It really held me back.

Loki's mum, great pictures...and I agree, SS is so cute. From the one picture I've seen of you it looks like he favors you, so I'm not surprised that he's adorable!!

A mourning room??...amazing

I simply do not have enough imagination to think about living that way, all the servants, and everything? No privacy!

Inside the house they had period costumes to try on. I wore a crinoline and SS wore a little velvet sailor suit. I really wanted to try the outfit with the bustle but it wouldn't have fitted.

No, really, he is very cute! :D Aww, I hope the performance went well. At least he got to be a plant. When I was little, I had to play a cloud  And I can totally agree with:

about my brothers. I was so shy, it held me back too. I still am somewhat shy. I used to decline invites to parties when I was little, and I didn't have many friends. I am determined my brothres won't go the same way. It broke my heart to see my biggest LB almost 'pull a sicky' on a party! And he was crying and so afraid. I wish I could..like..GIVE him confidence. He was crying in his room, talking to himself, saying how scary the party would be, so I went in and talked to him because I could see it getting more and more out of proportion. I managed to get him to stop crying, phew, and he did go, though he stayed by my dad apparently nearly the whole time. *Sigh* If I could turn back the clock, I wouldn't be half as shy. I hope SS enjoyed the performance!
