Well, I still haven't finished "Angus the Mule". I am stuck on the background (Angus himself is done, except for some fiddling with his poll) and am terrified of screwing it up, so I am avoiding it. I posted a scan of it on the WetCanvas website, and the suggestions have almost all been to keep it very soft, abstract and in a blue hue (the contrasting colour of Angus' roan coat). But I just don't know, and I'm afraid. Since it's been sitting here for weeks (months?!) I decided to share it with you, and maybe someone will have an idea how to finish it. I hope. I also hope you think I've done Angus proud, especially you, DixieDoodle! Thanks to you for sending me the pic of Angus to work from.

Have I posted this before? I have a weird feeling I have. If I have, someone please let me know, and I remove this one.
Thanks.

I think you have done a great job with Angus. His eyes are particularily piercing, like real. Actually I like his whole face!

Do you need to do something with the background? Less is more? maybe add a touch of blue to indicate sky, but I like it as is.

Great job Phyrie. I would either go with a pale blue sky as suggested or if you wanted to keep with just the brown / red tones then you could perhaps add a suggestion of crop fields behind in a washed out ochre.

How have I missed this? You did Angus proud! I have no advice or tips for you as I did not get any art talents from my family, but I think your drawing is wonderful! You did a really good job at capturing Angus cheekiness! Well done :D

Thanks, DixieDoodle! I really enjoyed doing Angus. He had such a great face! He's given me a bit more confidence, and I hope I can now move on to dogs (once I finish the background of Angus!).

BTW, did you get the larger pic of him that I sent you?

Thanks, Margie! I'm going to give the background an attempt tonight. I have to make some cookies first, but I will get to it, probably. Maybe... *sigh* I am SUCH a loser!

Please forgive me...but I had a good laugh over your post, Phyrie!! I do the same thing...there is always something else you "have" to do instead of the thing you want to do but afraid you will screw it up.

That's why I didn't finish my script until the 11 1/2 hour... So if you're a loser, so am I.

BTW - how are the cookies? And what kind?

The cookies are great! Well, they smell great, I haven't tried one yet. They are chocolate chip, but I was low on chips, so I took some really good bar chocolate and broke it up into chunks with a fork. So I have lovely chocolate chunk cookies cooling. I also put a bit of cornstarch in the flour mix, as Anna Olson says that helps make a chewy-inside cookie, which I like, rather than a crispy one.
I just asked Deb in PM if she thought it was a bad idea if I had cookies for dinner! LOL! I'm thinking seriously about it...

Love Angus the Mule.

And Cookies for dinner is fine. You have to eat at least a few while they are still warm and oh so yummy.

Cookies for dinner, YUM! Even better, cookie dough

Phyrie, What a great job you did on the drawing of Angus. I also think some blue sky would really complete it.

Cookie dough? Why bake cookies!

I missed the photos of Mt. Rushmore, what a remarkable place. It is interesting the engineering behind such a feat for it's time. I the fireworks, you got some really good ones from Debs room.

Paul I feel your pain, I too have burnt my feet quite a bit on hot sand.
