The map is a great idea RJM!

Lizanne, I have lots of corning wear and pyrex here. Lots of bowls of every size! We also have corning glass blocks in our basement windows. I had to look at an old small serving bowl that used to be my grandmother's and yes it is a pyrex bowl too

Gaby, is that a lighthouse on the end of the rock jutting out of the water? (Or used to be a lighthouse?)

Thanks to all of you who added photos of your areas. I really like seeing what everyone's areas look like.
(Australia is one of our future dream vacations too!)

Because of the scale of the map, I was forced to make it look like Deb and Michelle live in the same place...if I've missed a Canadian DPer, I'm sorry! Let me know and I'll adjust.

Nice one Lynners. I knew Phyrie was some distance from the other Canadian DPers but I didn't appreciate quite how far away she was.

Hmmm, I wonder if we could incorporate the two maps together. Image
I'll see what I can do.

ETA: Couldn't do it, so I'll post them together. You can see Lynners, Deb and Michelle are pretty close to the rest of us.

Hello everyone!

I'm Ashley and I live in Minnesota. It's known as the North Star State, Gopher State, Land of Sky-Blue Waters, Bread and Butter State and lastly The Land of 10,000 lakes, however there are about 11,842 lakes. We have manors known as "Minnesota nice". Our state fair is known as The Great Minnesota Get-together the following is information I got off of wiki: "The fair covers the variety of life in Minnesota, including fine art, science, agriculture, food preparation, 4H displays, music, the midway, and corporate merchandising. It is known for its displays of seed art, butter sculptures of dairy princesses, the birthing barn, and the "fattest pig" competition. One can also find dozens of varieties of food on a stick, such as Pronto Pups, cheese curds, and deep fried candy bars. On a smaller scale, many of these attractions are offered at numerous county fairs." I've only been there once with my father when I was little. I really need to go again.
We also of The Mall of America. Lucky us!
It is the second largest mall in terms of retail space. One thing I didn't know about MoA is according to wiki "Despite Minnesota's cold winters, only the mall's entrances and some below ground areas are heated. Heat is allowed in through skylights above Nickelodeon Universe. The majority of the heat is produced by lighting fixtures, other electric devices, and people in the mall in sufficient amounts to keep it comfortable. In fact, even during the winter, air conditioning systems are still in use during peak hours to ensure a comfortable shopping environment." The mall also has an indoor theme park and an underwater aquarium.

We have extreme weather, cold winters and hot summers.

A fun fact, Minnesota contains some of the oldest rocks found on earth, gneisses some 3.6 billion years old, or 80% as old as the planet. Another thing is that more than half the people that live in MN live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area known as the Twin Cities.

I use to have this book my aunt made about my great great grandmothers journey to MN that had bunches of history stuff but I don't know where it is.(and I'm not sure you would all what to hear about that)
But I do know that a large portion of Swedish immigrants came to Minnesota and the town I live is nicknamed "Americas little Sweden". It's an average sized town and we have a sister city in Sweden but I don't recall what it is. My town still has all the old buildings and they each have signs in Swedish and English. Also there's the 20mile trail the Swedish immigrants took that you can take. They're actually putting down a solid path that you can just follow.

I hope I did a good job at this. :|

Great job Lynners! Thanks for your effort. I'm really enjoying learning about everyone's home. You live in Little Sweden and the area I'm in is called Little Switzerland because of the steep hills.

I love how we seem to have one person per state on the map. I wonder if we can get one in EACH state.

Teeny is in MN.

If the US map showed the Great Lakes, it would help the frame of reference.

Lynners, if you can put Niagara Falls on the Map (both of them if you are able) that would be terrific.

As an example, I am closer to RJM (2 hours away) than I am to Lynners (4 hours away).

I love maps! I always want to see where I am and what is around me.

Tracy, a UK map would be wonderful. It would also be nice to include parts of Europe that are close to you. We could see where you used to live, as opposed to where you live now and its proximity to London. Paris is so close, relatively. 8)
