Aloha Adventures-adding Island boys now!

Postby kian on Sun Feb 06, 2011 8:49 pm

It was nice to be warm in the dead of winter and see green. Waikiki was nice, just very big, noisy and expensive. FYI for anyone thinking of visiting, don't Jaywalk!!! OH did the first day and I stayed behind with a nice lady from Australia who said the cops are ruthless and it is a $55.00 fine. We saw people pulled over for doing that, what a way to spoil a holiday.

The beaches are nice, great for snorkeling and swimming. I snorkeled for 2 hours there and 3 hours at Hanauma Bay. Loved it, didn't see any turtles.

The city bus transportation is great if you have the time and patience. We were told by shuttle drivers that it would take 3 hours to get to Pearl Harbor. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes, driving would take 30-40 minutes. $2.50 vs $8.00-15.00 was a no brainier and they still have to stop at the hotels along the way.

Since Tourism is their number one commodity, the locals are very nice. Lots of homeless along the strip and on the beach. The police are everywhere and good at keeping the area safe. There are goodwill people hired to warn people of the rules and give information.

The north shore was my favorite place, it is very nice up there. Less "aloha" and more normal talk, the Hawaiian talk is definitely for the tourist. The pics I will add over the few days, I have lots to go through! 8) Wonder why???

Kian, I'm sure the pups were so happy to have you back. We are going to Daytona in April and I just really hate to board the girls for six days. Anyway you can come and dog sit? Just kidding. I really hate to board them for that long time.

Kris I took over 400 pictures, of course not all are posting worthy just repeats and junk. The blue lights are restaurant lights, quite colorful. I think the blue light in the water is from that, not sure. Might be police lights.

Cyndy I feel the dog kennel pain everytime! They do fine and now are passed out from their own adventure. They do fine, it is hard, very hard.

Some famous surfing guy named Duke. It took me awhile to gets shots without people in it.

I had one chance to get this right, too many people on the sidewalk. I was lucky!
Image

Just a fun traffic picture. I had it on long exposure to see what would happen.

These guys are really fun. They are still like a stature, talk about discipline

Two girls passed the gold guy real close, both had ice cream cones. They nearly lost them when gold guy thumped his sword on the box.

My favorite picture of the North Shore, this one I will print.

A few more for tonight, I will post more over the week. These are from Pearl Harbor, the sub is the Bowfin and my dad served on it for 2.5 years. It was really great to see where he actually lived and worked. He is enjoying the pictures I sent, he wants to go on it but with mom so sick it will have to wait. The Arizona was very moving and humbling, that was on my bucket list. We almost didn't get to out, it was windy and they shut it down for awhile, I was about to cry. Talk about praying hard! While the water wasn't clear for the shots I wanted, I was most thankful to go. None of the color in any of my pictures have been changed, all the photos are as I took them. Amazing colors in the water there.

I'm so glad you got to the Arizona! That would have been terrible to not be allowed out. I would have cried too.

Again...great photos!!

Those are wonderful photos Kian! I'm sure your Father was deeply touched that you were able to view the ship in which he was a part. It must be very moving for him.

All Tourist destinations are expensive especially when their GDP is Tourism. 8)

I think visiting the Arizona Memorial would be quite moving considering how it all went down. I still can't imagine how hard it must have been for the survivors and worse still for those who were unable to be rescued.

It looks as though you had a lovely vacation. The North Shore is breath takingly beautiful. It doesn't snow there and they have Palm Trees, not to mention that beautiful Pacific.
