Thanks for the name of that plant RJM!

Kian I have never seen those water insulators before. Interesting! I wonder if its because its drier in your part of the country?

I got Iris bulbs and lots of seeds from Brenda today  . It was like Christmas at my house!! I have planted almost all of the bulbs and will decide this weekend where to sow the seeds. She even included instructions and tips on the seeds and flowers they will produce. How sweet! Brenda you are a special lady  . I am honored to include some of your plants in my gardens and really appreciate you sending them. I'll gather seeds for you and send them as soon as they start going to seed.

Here's a few pics of where I planted some of the bulbs. I won't bore you with everywhere I put them so far

Out front in two spots at this end

Image

One of the spots I put them in in the side garden. (I laughed because I started to clean out the brown leaves, then immediately thought of the compost pile! I left the leaves where they were until tomorrow, then I'll clean them out and take them to compost.) Yay!!

Image

And one of the spots I put them in the back, my favorite garden!

Image

I actually planted the bulbs in several places in all three areas, so I will have lots of additional color when they do bloom! I don't think they will bloom this year, but certainly hope they do next year. When I took Sadie for a walk a little while ago they were standing straight up and looking good!

Here's a current photo of the veggie garden too. These are my two rows of radishes, coming up really good so far. I will have lots of radishes, its a good thing I like them because my OH doesn't :D . I'll have lots of them to eat!
I just love planting a seed in the dirt and then watching it grow

Yes there are grass clipping in the garden, my OH had just mowed.

Thats how my gardens are growing so far!

I forgot to include two of my flower photos too!

I just love this Clematis and the flowers around it. This one is doing so much better than the one last year so I hope it survives.

My mom bought me this Asiatic Lilly. I was surprised it opened already. Its a bright BRIGHT orange. It glows from the street in my front flower bed.

Linda that looks very nice! I love those lilies, I had some that OH gave to me as a gift, at the old house sadly.

I bet you can find those water insulators at your local nursery, they are mostly for areas where late frost can be a issue. Yesterday as I arriving back home the rain turned into Hail so I quickly ran to the garden and put the buckets I had waiting to cover them. I lost a nice garden one year due to Hail, I learned my lesson then.

My compost box is done, it's very crude but should work. I need some dry weather to mow the lawn, I need more green in it to get it started.

Brenda that is fantastic! I bet your OH could make some to sell, wow. Your plants are looking so nice, how is your weather there? I see someone has a jacket on, looks cool like it is here. I don't have corn coming up yet, I do have some seeded veggies coming up.

Its warmer than yesterday. The jacket was to keep from getting bitten by them dumb gnats.

The plant are really doing good this year. I have beets ,beans and corn coming up.Wish my okra would pop through. But everything else looks good . Hows yours?

We'll see how the compost bin works.I would have liked 2 compartments but he did a pretty good job.

Brenda, your Irises are beautiful! I love Iris, whether they are the mini ones or the larger ones. Your whole garden looks wonderful. There is going to be some good eating coming out of that earth.

Your OH is quite handy! That is a very clever set up.

Brenda your OH did a great job on that compost bin! How ingenious!! It should be easy for you to turn.

I took a lot of yard waste and a weeks worth of coffee grounds and kitchen waste to the compost pile this morning. I hadn't turned it for a while so decided to do that. It was a little tough because I have increased the area for the pile, so there's a lot there. I was amazed though, my shredded newspapers have already disintegrated and mixed with the coffee grounds and dirt from grass that had been dug up. I could tell a lot of the kitchen scraps that I had put in there over the last couple of weeks have really started to (or already have) broken down too. I could tell the pile hadn't been touched (by an animal), so I am thinking my combination of browns and greens must have been good to make things break down that quickly. My OH makes a pot of coffee every morning so we have lots of coffee grounds to put in it.

I've been finding lots of worms while planting flowers and bulbs too. I pick them up carefully and either put them in the garden or in the compost pile, I'm sure that has helped too!

Your tomato plant is twice as big as mine are! I had to buy small ones in a 6 pack, but they have more than doubled in size already. I can't believe how fast the radishes are growing too! I looked back at the photo I posted a couple of days ago and am really amazed at the difference, and so quickly! If it hadn't started raining on me I would have taken another photo, maybe tomorrow!

I forgot to take a photo of a planter my daughter got me for Mothers Day. She got the light up buttefly and this planter. My OH is also pretty smart, and pretty handy  . We only had a shepherd hook with one hook so he added his own version of a hook this morning for the hummingbird feeder. They were on the same hook and it just wasn't working!

Close up of the flower basket

The full photo, you can see the hummingbird feeder in this one. He's so smart

Brenda, I forgot about my Sedum and the Tiger Lillies. If you want starts off of either of those let me know. The Sedum grows so easily, just stick a limb in the ground and it will form its own roots. The Tiger Lillies are from originals that my grandmother had at her house many years ago. Just let me know!

Or if anyone else wants any, I'll be glad to share!

Pretty Linda, is OH still waiting with the camera for that hummingbird!

I mowed and added the clippings from the bag and added some compost additive so I hope to see some breaking down soon. I hope I'm getting the right ratio of browns and greens, we don't have coffee grounds and that is something I don't want to chance with all the dogs around the area. I have thought about having OH bring some from work and bury them in the pile.

:D   Believe it or not we haven't seen one hummingbird yet!! The other birds are liking the feeders we put out though.

I'm glad you mentioned about the coffee grounds and dogs again. My compost pile is in the back where Sadie never goes, and a dog would really have to wander through our yard to get back there. Its all fenced in so its not likely. I do bury mine beneath other things though. Thanks so much for remembering to mention that!

I was out back digging weeds out of the old yard waste pile and it started raining on me, so I had to come in. I did get a few new pics of the garden before I started digging. I thought I would jump in here and post them, because like yesterday the rain went away pretty quickly! The humidity has gone back down too, so I'm going back out there.

One end of the garden, its growing quickly! I love doing this!!

These radishes are growing fast!!

This is the yellow bell pepper that the top got broke off. Can you see the new sprout coming out of the top of it!!

I was REALLY EXCITED! Cucumbers coming up finally, YAY!!

Oh my stars, it is so wonderful and exciting to see everyone's gardens growing!!

When we left for vacay, the tulips were starting to bloom and I had baby plants of everything else. Fast-forward a week and I have tulips, pansies, bleeding hearts and wild columbine blooming, and from three plants, a TON of black eyed susans sprouting!! Everything grew up so fast!! My veggies in the spare bedroom are crazy big, well, the tomatoes, broccoli, and zucchini are at least. I have a zucchini flower bud already! I'm going to be very busy this weekend, as I have 15 plants that I bought at a native plant sale two weeks ago to plant as well!! Praying that it doesn't rain all weekend! Good thing I'm off on Monday! Pics will be coming as soon as things settle down post-vacay.

Need to figure out what to put in the bulb island once those are done blooming. It faces south and gets a lot of sun. Petunias maybe?

That composer is great, Brenda! I haven't looked in mine yet to see what is going on in there... :?

Keep on growin'!
